#Repost @thedailyjaws with @repostapp ・・・ THIS BRILLIANT DIAGRAM shows the ‘rig’ used to bring #brucetheshark to life. As #JAWS was shot on the open ocean, it took hours to set up any shots involving seeing the shark. First, the 12 ton underwater rail and underwater adjustable arm would be towed out to location and submerged. Bruce would be towed out and attached. The special effects barge would then be anchored into position and connected to Bruce via pneumatic control hoses and tested. Once Bruce is in position, the camera barge would be brought in to set up the shot and then #orca - or whichever boat/prop needed would be brought in and also anchored. There would also be frogmen filming beneath the water to capture as much of the action the director #stevenspielberg needed. The adjustable arm would move back and forth along the underwater rail and raise up and down to create the illusion Bruce was #swimming forward and moving in and out of the water. #marthasvineyard was the perfect choice as the water was usually 30 feet deep and had tides of only 2-3 feet. This was important as higher/lower tides would obscure/reveal too much of the shark and 30 feet was a manageable depth for filming.
