Week 7, Trolling and Social Media Conflict
Social media isnāt all rainbows and sunshine, with the power to communicate to people all over the world, brings along a rather negative aspect, trolling and misuse of social media. Although some may argue that without trolling and the likes, social media perhaps wouldnāt be the same. Even as this argument is raised there is still a lot of people worried and looking for answers to patrolling social media. You can have all the government websites offering support from abuse of social media and other sites claiming to look into your situation, however couldnāt education simply be the answer to all our problems? If we were educated early on about the many sides to the Internet, people would understand the complexities that come with posting information and be prepared.
Ā Itās the Internet, we canāt control it and the people who think they can by slapping on a few laws are kidding themselves.
Ā But I donāt agree with people having to take abuse and bullying from strangers, we must be educated about what social media really entails. And to start with I think learning about things such as our digital trace are top priority. If we understand what is left out in the big wide world of the internet I think it can begin to tackle our knowledge of the power we have to what is put out there.
Ā Trolling only works if they have someone to respond to, if there is a comment from a person or a Facebook page, trolls will always latch on. So if we know what should and shouldnāt be posted perhaps people may think twice about interacting on social media.
