Decided to give it a quick once-over with a couple more instrument lines and some editing after listening to the original theme again. Granted, I only listened to it once... two days ago... after I first posted the original. So it’s still very much just my mental impressions of the theme, rather than me trying to completely remake it.
All I really added was my own twist on the double-beat bassline that runs alongside the rapid bassline, and the higher chords and a quick downard creeping pseudo-arpeggio. I think it ended up a little more digital sounding than the original, which wasn’t originally what I was going for. But since my style seems to be all about blending digital and analog, I guess I can’t really say I’m surprised.

This is not even a rough draft, this is like the rough draft of a rough draft. And I still haven’t been able to find a quiet time to record any more than the two takes of the first verse, hence why the chorus after the verse is just filled in with piano and the song tapers off before the second verse can come in.
I’m also not sure if I’ll lead with the vocals in the verse, or lead with the piano first, then the vocals. But yeah, since I only managed to get two takes of the one set of vocals I recorded, I just crossfaded with the second take to get the harmony. And you can hear me get my rhythm off a bit, because I’d spent ten out of the fifteen minutes I had free just trying to get Acid to recognize my (*&%ing microphone so I could record, and I was a little flustered when I finally got a chance to quickly record SOMETHING before I had to run out the door.
But yeah, this is with minimal editing, just quickly throwing together an analog instrument set that kinda sorta matches the cybergrunge instruments. Which probably aren’t finalized either, for that matter.
I’m also debating adding left hand chords with the piano... maybe have them continue to play during the part where the vocals replace the right hand piano part.
I also need to tweak the percussion and maybe the general timing a LOT. There’s no room in this piece at all. No space. There are a few parts where it fades out a bit, but just before it gets a chance to breathe, it starts going again. So I need to work on that.
CHORUS on everything. 🎹🎚
