thinking about how weird it is that i grew up a 30min drive from the Diefenbunker (literally "deep bunker," but also "Diefenbaker's bunker" bc the PM was John Diefenbaker at the time), which is this formerly secret underground nuclear bunker for the Canadian government during the Cold War in case of nuclear war.
and the tunnel that goes from Parliament building in downtown Ottawa approx. 30km directly to the Diefenbunker for the Prime Minister and other government officials.
and the fact that it's "decommissioned." my mom, sister, and i always believed that it is actually fully-functional in case of emergencies (which we seem to be approaching in the coming decade). personally, i always believed that there's only part of the Diefenbunker that's open to the public and that there are closed-off floors/sections we aren't allowed to visit / supposed to know about.
anyways watching the Danny Gonzalez weird houses video and it got to the bunker part and i was like ohh yeah the massive 5-storey decommissioned underground nuclear war bunker a 30-min drive from my childhood home
this is literally what it looks like from the outside btw ^^ like the Citadel in Hfx, it is designed to be invisible from an outside POV.
(there are fallout bunkers scattered across Canada, but this would be the headquarters if something were to happen. hence the tunnel from Parliament to the Diefenbunker.)
