WHAT'S GEN FOR 85? đ¤¸ââď¸
Gen for 85 means Dick Grayson Anniversary Week is adding an extra challenge to the creation process for the 2025 week. To honor 85 years of Dick Grayson non-romance and non-smut takes center stage. You're still allowed to include canon and non-canon ships in your works, they are simply not the focus.
The extra challenge was born because the DC fandom event corner looks very different right now than back in 2019. A lot of excellent ship events are happening all year around and the DG Week has always attracted more gen prompts, so highlighting Dick's gen side during his 85th Anniversary makes for a good extra challenge.
In need to talk about your process or simply all things Dick Grayson? Join us on the Dick Grayson Discord server âGreen Booty Shortsâ (18+, ship-friendly)!
Any questions left? Check out about or rules--or feel free to send an ask.
Let the prompts awaken your muse! I wish you lots of fun during the creation process! đđ¤¸ââď¸đľď¸ââď¸đŚ

For @dickgraysonweek Day 3: Underappreciated Relationships | Trauma Recovery | Greek Mythology
Summary
Bruce asks Dick to desensitize him to reminders of his trauma by purposefully triggering him. Dick is appalledâeven though he asked the exact same thing of Jason only a few months ago.
Or: Three Bats. Many hypocrites. Zero healthy coping mechanisms.
Characters: Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne, Jason Todd
Warnings: Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-Con
You can read it here or on AO3!
âAbsolutely not,â Dick says, standing in the kitchen with the carrots he was cutting completely forgotten. He looks down at the crinkled piece of paper in his hand, where Bruce has listed several dozen bullet points, organized by some system that no doubt only Bruce knows, all written in his messy, doctor-like scrawl. Looks back up at Bruce. Down at the paper. Back up at Bruce again. âWhatâs wrong with you?â He has half the mind to turn on the gas stove and throw the paper into the flames.
âHn.â Bruce gestures at the piece of paper in Dickâs hand.
Dick shakes his head wordlessly. He supposes thatâs a stupid question, given that Bruce has just handed him an itemized list. âIâm not drugging your drinks,â he tells Bruce. âIâm not...ââhe squints at the listââkidnapping you and taking you to a boarding school either. And Iâm not using the E.M.P. mask to pretend to be Joker again just so you can torture yourself. Jesus.â
And based on the list, thatâs just the tip of the iceberg. The Joker is obvious, and Dick would bet the list of plants near the bottom of the page has something to do with Ivy, but Dick has no clue why half of the items are included.
âItâs for the Mission,â Bruce says calmly, like he hasnât handed Dick a giant list and told him to repeatedly trigger his surrogate father in order to âdesensitizeâ him.
âThe Mission,â Dick echoes.
âAll of these are potential vulnerabilities in the field,â Bruce explains. âI would like your help in resolving them.â
âYou realize youâve just handed me a list of weaknesses, right?â Being so open about this is insane. Completely un-Batman-like behavior. Dick would honestly think that Bruce had been replaced by an imposter, except for the fact that some of the itemsâa baseball bat, a highly specific salad dressing, an alarm at a particular pitch and intervalâare traceable back to traumas that only Dick and Bruce would know.
âI trust you,â Bruce says simply.
And DickâDick knows that. But still, having it said so blatantly is disarming. âThis isnât healthy.â
Bruce chuckles. âNeither is vigilantism.â
Dick sighs. âThis is beyond that. Iâm not going to just sit by while you purposefully trigger yourself, Bruce. And Iâm certainly not helping you do it.â
Bruce takes a long pause to find his words. Dick waits, his gaze flickering to the abandoned carrots. Heâll have to use the precut ones. Alfred would be appalled, but Alfred isâŚwell⌠âYouâve told me that you want me to be open about my problems, and that we would work together as a family to address any continuing issues.â Bruce says it like a mission report, clinical and precise.
âAbout things like your crazy backup personality!â Dick wipes a hand over his face. âNot that I donât appreciate your...trustâŚwith this, and not that Iâm not willing to help you if you want to find a better solution, but I wasnâtââ He folds the list up in his hands. âThis stuff is private, Bruce. You donât have to tell me about it. You can, if you want, but you donât need to redeem yourself by tearing your whole life wide open. Unless one of these triggers is a secret codeword thatâll make you brainwash Jason again, you donât have to show them to me.â
âSome of these,â Bruce says slowly, âare impacting the Mission, or have the potential to do so in the future. My goal is to minimize their impact.â
âBy triggering yourself.â
âYes. I donât understandââ
Dick really wishes Alfred was still around. Although given Alfredâs stiff upper lip, he might very well have been in favor of this plan. âWeâll find another way,â Dick says. âBut Iâm not,â he looks back down at the list, âsneaking drugs into your champagne. Thatâs insane.â
âIâm giving you permission to,â Bruce says, like he doesnât understand the problem, like he doesnât understand how thatâs a massive betrayal of trust. But the thing is, he does. He must understand, if itâs somehow made its way onto his list of triggers. And yet, heâs asking Dick to do it anyway. Heâs not just asking Dick to hit him where heâll hurt mostâheâs asking Dick to betray him. And Dick will fight Bruce when he needs someone to remind him of who he is, but betray him? Thatâs too far.
âAnd Iâm not accepting it,â Dick says. âIâm not gonna let you hurt yourself. Câmon Bruce, you know me better than that.â
Bruce takes a moment to mull Dickâs words over in his head. Eventually, he nods. âAlright.â And then, he smiles slightly. âHow did you end up so well-adjusted, Dick?â
Dick laughs nervously. âI have no idea.â
Well, thatâs because he didnât actually âend up so well-adjusted.â
In truth, Dick Grayson is a hypocrite.
***
âYou,â Jason says, âare out of your goddamn mind.â He emphasizes it with a slam of the pantry door.
âYeah,â Dick says patiently, watching as Jason takes out the pancake mix. An interesting choice, considering that itâs five pm and Jason is normally a pancakes-from-scratch purist. âThatâs the point. Thatâs why Iâm asking you for this.â
âWho was it?â Jason asks.
Dick rolls his eyes. âCan we not do this right now?â
âNo,â Jason says. âYou asked me to help. Let me do something actually fucking helpful. Who was it?â
Dick meets Jasonâs eyes. He can see the fire there, burning with what he personally considers entitlement. Jason feels entitled to handle this his way, to exact vengeance on behalf of someone who doesnât want it. But still, this is Dickâs brother. If Jason didnât have that fire, that need for sense justice, he wouldnât be Jason. âSheâs dead,â Dick says. Itâs only half a lie. Two-thirds, max.
âOkay, look,â Jason says. âYou wanna go sniff perfume on your own, fine. I canât control you. Iâll even practice pins with you, even though I think itâs a bad idea. But on the training mats, Dick, not in the fucking shower. And if you honestly expect me to force pills down your throat, you donât know me at all.â
âIf the shower would be too weird, we could rig a sprinkler system,â Dick offers.
Jason throws his hands in the air. âThatâs not the point, Dickhead! Youâre supposed to be the well-adjusted one. You even saw a shrink when I was a kid!â
âI lied to the therapist,â Dick admits.
âWell, at least you had a therapist to lie to!â Jason says. He takes a deep breath and then fishes a ladle out of one of his drawers and begins pouring batter into a pan.
âIf you want a therapist, I canââ
âI donât want a fucking therapist,â Jason clarifies. âWhat Iâm saying is, you know how messed-up this is.â
âItâs logical,â Dick says. âUnder a highly specific set of circumstances, Iâm a liability in the field. So I shouldââ
âSo you should," Jason grimaces, "talk to someone. Or do a Bat emotional repression classic and just avoid those circumstances.â
âFine,â Dick says, stuffing his hands in his pockets. If Jason wonât help him, heâll get Helena involved. Bruce would be livid at Dick revealing a weakness like this to a loosely affiliated vigilante, but Dick knows Helena well enough to trust that she wouldnât use this against him. And honestly, Helena would be much more likely to trigger him anyway, given that sheâs a woman and not his little brother.
Jason steps in front of the door. âYouâre going to go recruit Cass, arenât you?â
âNo,â Dick says, completely honestly.
âKate then. Or Helena.â
âNo,â Dick says, much less honestly.
âDick, you realize you wonât just have a couple panic attacks and then âget over it,â right? This could make things worse, or put you out of commission for a week, orâor whatever. Itâs not worth it.â
âYou think I donât know that?â Dick asks. âYou think Iâd ask this of you if that hadnât already happened?â Last time circumstances had coincided just wrong, heâd had nightmares for four days. And then two weeks later, he inexplicably hadnât been able to put on the Nightwing suit without wanting to peel off his skin. And then another week after thatâ
The point is, Dick knows. He knows it isnât as simple as repeated exposure desensitizing him to a trigger. Heâs not stupid. But he canât stand this, the constant reminders, the knowledge that a single unlucky coincidence could send him into a panic attack, the voice whispering in his ear that heâs weak.
âI know what Iâm doing,â Dick says.
âIf you go through with this,â Jason says, âIâll bring Bruce in.â
Dickâs eyes narrow. âYou wouldnât.â
âI would.â
Dick meets Jasonâs eyes. âThis is private, Jason,â he says carefully.
Eventually, Jason looks away and angrily starts putting the pancakes on plates. âFine. I wonât. But only because heâd just fuck everything up. But DickâŚplease donât do this.â
Jason doesnât say please. If he says please, that means that it matters to him, that itâll hurt if someone says no.
But here he is, saying please.
Dick sighs. âFine. Iâll try to figure something else out. But Iâll take you up on the offer to practice pins.â
âAlright,â Jason says, shoving a plate in Dickâs face. âI can live with that.â
***
âI shouldâve asked Jason,â Bruce says mournfully.
âUhâŚâ Dick tries to give off his very best I donât know from experience impression. âI donât think heâd be on board with this plan.â
Bruce tilts his head. âHe asked something similar of me. BeforeâŚbefore Zur.â
âHe told you to purposefully trigger him?â
Bruce looks Dick dead in the eyes. âHe asked me supervise while a hired criminal beat him âlightlyâ with a crowbar. And then bury him alive.â
Unfortunately, that does sound like Jason. It's why Dick had chosen to ask him in the first place. He hadn't expected that Jason would refuse. Honestly, Dick wouldn't have expected any Bat to refuse.
Dick frowns. âAt least tell me neither of you have mentioned this to Damian.â Because while Damian has come a long way in the past four years, Dick just knows that Damian would consider this an excellent training strategy. And if Bruce, Dick, and Jason are doing thisâŚwhat if it filtered down to the younger Bats?
Bruce is silent for a moment too long.
âBruce, I swear to godââ
Bruce raises his hands in surrender. âI didnât say anything to him. ButâŚDamian complained to me that Tim and Duke were dressing up as the Joker and systematically jump scaring each other.â
Dick blinks. âOh. Thatâs. Unusually reasonable of him.â
Bruce grimaces. âHe was upset that they werenât including him in their training because they deemed him too young.â Too young.
Well, Dick thinks, burying his face in his hands, at least Iâm not alone in my hypocrisy.

Wonder Twins | "You will always be my Robin." | Unlikely Allies
Summary
âTim,â Dick says. âYou will always be my Robin. And there is nothing I want more than to fight at your side.â
âThen why,â Tim asks, âare you taking this from me?â
Or: Dick and Timâs conversation in Red Robin #1, except we actually acknowledge that time Dick and Tim were Batman and Robin, and the transition to Damian as Robin goes much better.
Characters: Dick Grayson, Tim Drake
You can read it here or on AO3!
âWhy?â Timâs voice is hoarse when he speaks, like heâs only moments away from crying.
Dick doesnât turn around, instead keeping his gaze fixed on the Batcomputer screen. ItâsâŚsome sort of report. He doesnât know what it says. He couldnât concentrate, knowing the conversation that heâd inevitably have to have tonight. Dick did everything he could to make this go smoothly, even getting Alfred to keep Damian out of the cave, but he knows that no amount of planning can make up for what heâs doing. âTimâŚâ
âMy suit,â Tim says. âYou moved it. Why?â
Dick doesnât want to see the expression on his little brotherâs face. His heart is heavy enough in his chest. âDamian needs Robin,â Dick says quietly. He knows he needs to turn around. If Dick wants to have any chance of salvaging the situation, he has to have this conversation face to face.
But he hates this. He hates having to make this decision. Playing with vigilante names like chess pieces, like theyâre not identities.
Tim is Robin. Dick canât take that away from him.
But he must.
âYou said weâd be okay,â Tim accuses, walking closer. âMy entire life has burnt down! Again!â Tim is right behind him now. Dick flinchesânot at the anger in Timâs voice, but the grief. Dick is doing this to his little brother. âI donât call this okay, Dick.â
Dick swallows, and slowly turns his chair to face Tim. He stands. Tim is only a few inches shorter than him now. He used to be so small. âDamian is my responsibility, now,â Dick says, taking in the way Tim is already curling in on himself. They both know that Dick isnât going to change his mind. But knowing the futility of an argument rarely prevents itâespecially when someone as stubborn as Tim is involved. âTim, you know better than anyone that left on his own, heâs going to kill someone. Again. You have to understandââ
âNo,â Tim says. âI donât. This is all I have now.â
âItâs not,â Dick promises. He knowsâhe knows what Tim has lost in the last few years. But⌠âYou have Stephanie. Alfred. Me.â
âDo I?â Tim asks, gesturing at the empty case where his suit used to sit. âBecause from where Iâm standing, it sure doesnât look like it.â
âYouâre still my brother, Tim,â Dick says. âRobin or not.â
Dick can see the sheen of tears building in Timâs eyes. âWhy, Dick?â Tim makes a tiny, choked noise. âWhat did I do wrong? Iâm sorry I went after Jason, Dick, butââ
âNo,â Dick interrupts. âYou didnât do anything wrong. This isnâtâthis isnât a punishment, Tim.â
âThen why? Why are you choosing him over me?â
âIâm not,â Dick insists. He thinks heâs beginning to understand what the world was like from beneath Bruceâs cowl, in a way he never did the first time he donned it. Dick has always had Bruceâs trust, but it was never enough for him. He wanted to be there, fighting at his side. He wanted to be Robin. And now Tim has what Damian doesnâtâDickâs trust. But just like Dick at nineteen, all Tim wants is to be Robin. âTim, heâs Bruceâs son. I canâtâŚâ
âCanât what? Just because heâs got Bruceâs genes doesnât mean heâs better than me!â
Dick isnât saying that at all though. âIâm Damianâs guardian now,â Dick says. âBruce wanted me to take care of him. I canâtâŚâ I canât fail him. Not again. Not now. âAnd if I donât give him Robin, heâll leave.â And if Damian leaves, heâll kill. Or die. Or both. âHe needs this, Tim.â
âI need this!â Tim shouts. Immediately, he steps back, the anger draining out of his body. âPlease, Dick. I was supposedâI thought we were going to do this together. I thought it would be like last time, and weâd handle it together.â Last time. It had been different, last time. When Dick put on the cowl and Tim flew through the air at his side. Back then, the world was a brighter place. And Bruce, despite his back injury, was still alive. âWe could handle anything together.â Timâs voice shakes as he looks up at Dick with pleading eyes. âWas I not good enough to be your partner? To be your Robin?â
Oh. Dickâs heart rips in two. He blinks the tears out of his own eyes and gently places his hands on Timâs shoulders. âTim,â Dick says. âYou will always be my Robin. And there is nothing I want more than to fight at your side.â
âThen why,â Tim asks, âare you taking this from me?â
âYouâre my equal, Tim. Not my protĂŠgĂŠ. Not anymore. I know you can handle this.â
Tim looks Dick dead in the eyes. âI canât.â
And maybeâ
Maybe Dick has misjudged.
There is still acne on the side of Timâs face. He spends his days at high school. And he has just lost his second father in two years.
Dick thought Tim was ready to forge his own path. To take over BlĂźdhaven, evenâTim had lived there for a bit and patrolled it with Cass, and by now itâs been rebuilt enough to need its own defender. He thought Tim would ultimately thrive with the new independence. After all, the kid has been globetrotting on his own since he was thirteen.
But Tim is, undeniably, still a kid. And heâs doing what Dick never could at his age: admitting that he needs his home, needs help.
Dickâs eyes fall on the suitsâ cases, where everything is lined up in a row. Multiple models of the Batman suit. Nightwing. Timâs Robin caseânow empty. Cassâs Batgirl costume, in case she ever wants it back. And Damianâs new case, with his tiny Robin suit. Dick thought it was time for Tim to become his own heroâto truly step out of Batmanâs shadow and build a life and name for himself.
But maybe this is a different kind of graduation day.
âWhat if you could be Nightwing?â
Tim startles at that, looking up at Dick with wide eyes. After a few moments, though, he looks away. âI canât take that from you.â Itâs not a no. Itâs not a no.
âYouâre not taking it,â Dick says. âIâm offering.â He squeezes Timâs shoulder gently and leads him over to Nightwingâs case. âYou have a place here, Tim. Robin or not, that will never change.â
Tim shakes his head, but he reaches up almost trance-like, his fingers ghosting the glass. âNightwingâs yours,â Tim says. âBruce took Robin from you. But Nightwingâyou got to keep that. Itâs only ever been yours.â
Andâyes, itâs meaningful, that Nightwing has never been something that Bruce could take away. But when Dick took on the mantle, he had been a lost teenager too. And just like Tim, heâd needed a place to slip into, an identity with a legacy that he could wrap around himself like a warm blanket-cape. âActually,â Dick says, âSuperman gave me the title.â
Timâs head whips around to look over at Dick. âWhat?â
âNightwing is from a Kryptonian legend. He works in the shadows, as a protector. And every cycle, heâs reborn. Being passed down is part of the legend, Tim.â It hurts, giving away Nightwing. Giving away the safety net that caught him when he fell. But Tim needs this. Tim needs a reminder that he has a place here, has a home. And Dick would do anything for his little brother.
Besides. Dick would be honored for Tim to wear his mantle.
âPlease, Tim,â Dick says. âI donât want to lose you too. I need you.â He lets his voice break. He knows itâs manipulative, but heâs not acting either. He does need Tim. He needs Tim to be safe. He needs his little brother to know he is loved. Andâ âI donât want to do this alone,â Dick admits.
Then you shouldnât have taken Robin, Tim could snap. But he doesnât. Instead, he lets his hand fall to his side. Theyâre both silent for a moment.
And then arms are wrapping around Dickâs torso and Tim is burying his face in Dickâs chest. Smiling softly, Dick reaches out and pulls his brother closer in a tight embrace.
âThank you,â Tim says.
âWeâll be okay,â Dick promises as Timâs tears finally fall, soaking the fabric of the batsuit. âWeâll be okay.â
