um so basically i imagine that dib had violent tendencies even as a child, like, look at how bad he wants to *vivisect* zim in the original show. he shows little regard for others’ lives, like in the room with a moose episode he considers letting himself die on the bus just to get back at his classmates. in the fic i imagine he was just as neglected by his father as he is in the show, and thus acts out to get attention. once they get to high school, dib has realized that the only person who has his back is gaz, who has a sort of shaky alliance with him due to him protecting her from a couple creeps at some point, (since their father definitely wouldnt care) and she’ll hack security cameras to erase footage or cover for him if he needs. also hes a clone of membrane so im sure that doesnt help with the whole mental stability thing LOL

So like sapph put it, Dib has always been unstable and itching for violence, until the day he finally had an excuse to snap (which was covered in a flashback chap cuz its relevant to he and Gazs weird accomplice relationship tehe).

Dib is a case of a disturbed individual with an unhealthy obsession with violence and poor relationships with family and peers that just went right down the path to the deep end, a perfect concoction for a freak serial killer like him. And he didn't get caught like others would because someone had his back.

Beyond that, there's not much else to be said about Dib’s past, he didnt have a crazy catalyst that set him off like how he was for Dipper.

One thing that was only easter egg hinted at (and is not fleshed out lol) was one of his early intentional murders, which was implied to be this AU's version of Zim!

Make your own theories and interpret that how you will, but in *my* mind, yknow, they went to school together and probably had some kinda close relationship bc in the show theyre eachothers most important people whether theyre enemies or friends or in between. so whatever dynamic they had growing up, Dib felt inclined to risk getting caught just to kill Zim when he found him again after moving to another city as adults :3 just a fun weird wrinkle I threw in there
