Black Doom / Diablon similarities
Guys I am insane or...DOES DIABLON KINDA LOOKS LIKE BLACK DOOM?! THAT'S NO COINCIDENCE RIGHT?!
DID EVERYONE NOTICE THIS AND I AM JUST 20 YEARS LATE OR DID NO ONE EVER POINT IT OUT?!
U78-X/D aka Diablon (+Sonic) is one of the final bosses of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) that can be fought in 3 different endings. It's piloted by the G.U.N. commander in person (Abraham Towers) It's a mecha that look like an humanoid flying torso with 3 huge fingers, big shoulders and 2 monitors around its face and and one weapon on top of the head like 3 eyes.... Looks familiar to me.
Also Diablon name came from diablo/diable= devil. Black Doom is kinda the space devil. (Yes there's the memes but like it's not just a meme). In Japanese its name is ディアブãƒãƒ³= Diaburon. It's seems it's indeed pronounced "Diablon". (While translator auto translate to Diablo). And the commander literally call Shadow "devil" during the boss fight. "Hold, still you devil!" while trying to catch/punch him.
They also mention in this dialogue V that it's not even quite finished and GUN mobilise it as their last resort.
I cannot believe it. Abe really made a mech based on his childhood trauma to beat said monster he saw 50y later. Oh I can see so clearly him drawing it himself... Damn that's crazy. What a callback and satisfying way to defeat your enemy I guess. I can understand why they did it like this.
Shadow: Hold on. You had G.U.N. made a robot to defeat Black Doom. That looks just like Black Doom?
Commander: That's correct.
Shadow: And you call it Diablon?
Commander: Yes...

This took me four hours but it was so worth it! The scene is from Shadow the hedgehog's own game. I decided to try to draw Diablon, he is a pretty forgetful for an enemy/ boss I decided it would be cool if I had him in one of my drawings so this is what ended up happening, a re-draw of a cutscene he and Sonic were in together happened. ( I just made it more edgy)
