There are two ways in which Buddhas and Bodhisattvas help living beings: by manifesting in different aspects as Spiritual Guides who lead living beings to enlightenment by teaching the Dharma, and by assuming the form of different Dharma Protectors who remove obstacles and bestow good conditions.

A question about Dharma Protectors

Dorje Shugden is the Dharma Protector of the NKT and he is the Protector Buddha that we make prayers to in all of our centers. The reason for this is because he is the Dharma Protector of our Guru and lineage Gurus, and this is one of those practices that get passed down from one generation to the next.
If you already have a different Dharma Protector practice, we aren't going to make you give it up. You just won't see any of that practice at our centers, since it's not part of our lineage. We do have a brief mention of other Dharma Protectors within some of our Protector prayers, as a way of honoring all of them, even those of other Buddhist lineages, but Dorje Shugden is definitely the main one for us and who most Kadampas will pray to and turn to for help.
