There's a low cold laugh at the question. One he finds rather pointless and a waste of time if he is honest with himself. "I find anyone who seeks validation on being 'good' is in fact not a good individual for various reasons." It's a simple answer. One he believes from experience.

fingers  card  through  her  hair  as  he  sits  in  their  shared  silence,  admiring  her.  he  finds  himself  smiling,  something  done  so  easily  in  her  presence.  ay  was  the  reason  why  he  fought  so  hard  ;  why  he  even  had  purpose  anymore.  there  was  nothing  he  would  do  for  her,  even  climbing  the  ranks  in  a  society  that  did  not  want  him,  just  so  no  one  could  tell  him  he  couldn't  be  there.  quietly,  he  leans  over  to  press  a  kiss  to  her  temple.  "you've  been  working  hard.  take  a  break  with  me,  yeah?"

She glanced around as if someone could be listening in, and took a cautious a step closer. "The WEAKNESS of those in power..." voice hushed to a whisper, as some got offended alone by the implication of weakness.

"Truly strong people don't hurt others, I believe. Weak people do... and oh are there many weak people."

he  knows.

of  course  he  knows.  the  day  is  burned  into  his  memory  as  one  of  the  happiest  days  of  his  life,  a  day  he  thinks  back  on  often.  it  is  also  one  of  the  days  that  bring  him  the  most  pain  because  it  would  have  been  their  anniversary.

it  could  still  be  their  anniversary.

tongue  darts  out  to  lick  his  lips  as  hands  rub  against  the  fabric  of  his  jeans,  green  eyes  gazing  at  her  through  his  lashes.  there  is  so  much  he  could  say  in  this  moment  that  would  give  them  a  million  timelines  —  and  all  of  them  would  end  with  the  two  of  them  together.  he  knows  it  in  his  heart  of  hearts.

he  was  going  to  do  everything  in  his  power  to  stand  at  her  side  once  again  as  her  partner.

"it  is,"  he  settles  on,  reaching  into  his  back  pocket.  even  if  they  were  forced  apart,  that  day  was  still  theirs.  it  would  have  to  be  pried  from  his  dead,  cold  hands  before  that  would  happen  —  and  even  then,  he'd  fight.  ven  takes  a  step  closer  as  he  pulls  a  thin  rectangular  box  from  his  pocket  ;  he  opens  it  to  reveal  a  subtle  gold  necklace  with  a  beautiful  flor  de  maga  charm.  he  holds  it  out  to  her,  searching  her  face  for  her  reaction.  "a  .  .  .  little  something  to  remember  me  by  when  we  .  .  .  aren't  together."  lips  press  together  before  he  smiles  softly,  reaching  a  hand  to  brush  knuckles  tenderly  against  her  cheek.

"a  promise,  until  i  can  put  a  ring  on  your  finger."
