How I got Dumped in Denver
I consider it an Americana love story, others may see it as a lapse in judgement, whatever the case is, this is how I came to live in Denver. Although I wouldn’t go so far as to call it “living” in Denver as much as living on the lamb in Denver, but hey it’s all relative. Getting into details might prove to be a problem, but I can try as I might to give you some idea of the events that led me to Denver. We will for all intensive purposes call him “D”. Now “D” is handsome, tall, blue eyed and actually liked me. We met on twitter by a mutual love of Lucero, whom I can’t even listen to now a days, fuck you very much. Out of luck I had a couple of old high school buddies living in Denver as well, so my brilliant idea would be to come to Denver to see my friends but more importantly “D” who I was hopelessly in love with. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed once I was there and I was right. After pulling off an epic swindle back in Texas, I had the money to get to Denver. He came around the baggage claim with a rose in his hands. As much as I want to describe every intoxicating inch of “D” , I won’t. Now keep in mind I gave him very little notice I was coming to Denver for a indefinite stay. He informs me the night before I was about to come that he is still legally married and I would be better off staying at my friend’s place for a couple of nights till his ex magically became rational. This would not happen. He knew how I felt about him, how honest I was, how I was ready to love his children, how I was very real. After that moment with the rose, I inhaled his scent while in the car laying my head on his shoulder. The Great Divide brewery was cozy with The Kentucky Street Parlor Pickers playing in the corner, I drank the first beer I had in possibly a year at the brewery, so the fuzziness of love and IPA was like a dream. Yes OK! We kissed! On the 16th floor of the clock tower downtown! It was perfect! So quit asking me, Jesus! The next day after the epic kiss, the epic everything, “D” told me via Facebook he didn’t feel a spark with us and well you get the picture, devastated I thought I might as well move on to Nashville with the record label I was working for. This would not happen, once I got to the light rail, my passport, money and plane tickets would be stolen. After nine levels of complete insanity, I calmed down and thought about “D”. I wasn’t for one second believing the “spark” excuse. So I took a deep breath and decided to stay, stay in Denver. It’s been about a month and “D” has since deleted me from his Twitter and Facebook, I don’t know if he even knows I stayed. It’s only a matter of time before we run into each other, after all our mutual love of music brought us together so it shall make our paths cross at some point. I’m not scared to see him, actually all I want him to say is one thing and I will be at peace, “I’m glad you stayed.”
