Progress Report
Unfortunately, in the midst of looking for moderators, we were informed of a close family member's death. Much of our time has been devoted to that, another family member's wedding, our job, and tending to the illness we've been afflicted with while traveling.
We haven't been able to work on the servers as much as we would prefer, but our availability seems to be clearing up again. Knowing how perfectionist we can be, I've decided to launch the server now to prevent any further delays. Here's the link:

i like the idea of having roles but disallowing discussion!
i've been thinking about with ways to set up roles to meet the needs of people who want to know and people who want to stay out of it... would the roles be optional to pick up? i know we'd personally feel more comfortable if they were available but not mandatory.

"NTG" is the acronym for "non traumagenic"! We believe that forcing someone to pick roles (especially with a topic that sensitive) is unnecessary and causes needless issue, so it won't be required.
Please don't worry about "walls of text"! Whatever is easiest/most comfortable for you is perfectly fine with us.
longwinded dev from the server asks again: i'm glad the two servers idea landed well! some channels we've seen in the past... a "hobbies" category with channels for games/reading/art/etc, a "spoilers" channel or forum channel for people to talk about things they're watching without worrying about spoiling others (and then sometimes a "spoiler-free"/"censor spoilers" space)... personally, we always include a "happy moments" channel in the servers we manage, like the inverse of a vent channel, for brief happy status updates.
y'know, we might request no "vent channels" or anything in either server, also... if nothing else, those spaces seem hard as fuck to moderate. they also tend to create weird energy...

Definitely will not be adding a vent channel. We get what you mean by "weird energy" and would rather avoid that in both the work and community servers. We love the idea of a "happy moments" channel and a hobbies category. We'll add them after work today.

i also would request that we exclude syscourse stuff (discussion, stance roles, etc) from the server... at least the development one, if things were to be split up.
(a) that seems ultimately irrelevant from the actual work at hand - i mean, we find a lot of joy in imagining how our tool could be helpful for plural and singlet users, and everyone in between
(b) personally, i don't want to be subject to all of the scrutiny that comes with syscourse being present at all. again, we've been around the block a few times - with things like this, when it's operationalized into stance roles and such, it's impossible to not be involved.
i'd hate to lose an opportunity to connect with fellow devs to our lack of capacity for discourse and all of the accompanying scrutiny and intensity.
The plan is to exclude syscourse/origin discussion from the development server, and I'm very glad to hear multiple devs agree with this decision. The hope is that it acts as a workplace of sorts. Allowing divisive subjects would only cause tension and take away from everyone's shared goal - to support systems needing a new "home" post-Simply Plural.
Honestly, you phrased it much better than we could. It doesn't serve any purpose to the work each developer is trying to do, so it shouldn't have a place in relation to it.
That being said, I can understand how some developers would want to specify their stance and know about others'. There's a peace of mind component and it may help them in deciding who they're more comfortable interacting with. One developer proposed having roles for pro/neutral/anti NTG but having a guideline stating discussion around it is not permitted. We'd like to get a general consensus on this before adding it to the server. So please respond to this when you're able!

Yes - just in the work server.

project dev here. as someone who has moderated a good few servers in their life and participated in a good number more, i wanted to suggest splitting up the "work" and "breakroom" areas into two partner servers. one for development work and collaboration, and one for general community building.
we've just found that general community building categories almost always eclipse topic-based ones, even when the server is meant to be about the topic. this way, you could have a bit clearer boundaries about what goes where.

We ended up loving this idea a lot more than trying to limit community-related conversations to one section. Thank you so much and consider it implemented!
What sort of channels have you seen in other servers that you would want to see in our community server? We don't have very many as of now and would like to expand a little.
