#devil's lake

There are so many places in nature that make my heart sing, and the Baraboo hills in Wisconsin is once of those places. I love nooks and crannies, and god are there nooks and crannies here. Sandstone bluffs and quartzite boulders, so many different plants and mushrooms taking advantage of the various microclimates across the landscape.

Anyway, I was there this week, housesitting for my aunt while she was on a trip but also treating it like my own little vacation. It's only a 50 minute drive from my place, which isn't far but too far for my chronic fatigue to do a day hiking trip to. So my aunt offering up her place made the trails here far more accessible. I mostly explored Mirror Lake State Park (you can even see the lake between the rock faces in the last picture) and did a quick visit to Ableman's Gorge (the first picture), only to find my knee wasn't up to the task.

Slowly but surely, fall is coming!

That would be Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Reason being is that it's a nice place to get away from everything. The hikes bring a good challenge resulting in a very rewarding view when you make it to the top of one of the mountain bluffs.

Plus my phone service dies when I arrive there, a perfect separation from everything.
