Determined Youth | Darius - Garnet

"You don’t wanna know. Let’s just say I pissed off the Forest." He said bluntly. Darius had gotten careless. In truth, it was the whole damned forest. How was he to know that the entire place would try and attack him? He was just scouting the place everyone called ‘Evil Forest’ and wound up being chased by a legion of strange spider monsters. They were weak, and not much of a threat, but there was so many of them. He would have to demolish the entire forest to stop them all. Before he knew it, he was surrounded and had to fight his way out. Now, his shirt and jacket were ripped, he had numerous gashes all over his chest and arms, and one horrible gash on his back where he’d been sliced open. Now, here he sat shirtless with Garnet fretting over him, using spell after spell as she tried to heal his numerous injuries. Despite his assurances that he was fine, he saw the worry in her eyes. He let out a sigh. Although the bleeding was stopped, at this rate she would pass out trying to fully close and heal him. She was pushing herself. He raised his hand, enveloping her small hand in his much larger one, stopping her latest spell attempt.
"…It’s alright, Garnet." He said softly. "I’m alright. I’m still here. Breathing. Alive." He stood up, gently holding her. "But… If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll go to the doctor."
After she'd asked how many of them there'd been, Garnet didn't quite like the answer she received from Darius. There were so many cuts and bruises littered all over his frame, and she was fearful that she wasn't capable of healing all of them. Still though, she tried. Spell after spell, she whispered the enchanted words as pale hands quivered over his injuries. When she felt his warm hand on hers, she jumped, startled by the gesture. Chestnut colored eyes looked up at him, full of panic. He can tell I'm exhausted. I'm not strong enough for this kind of white magic yet.
"I, I'm sorry, Darius! I—?!" That was when she felt herself being pulled into an embrace. This was the first time that he'd done such a thing. And Garnet had no idea how to properly respond to the action. She'd never been hugged like this by anyone before. Not even her own mother ventured to show her such affection. At least, not since the princess had been a small child.
Listening to his soft words, she couldn't help but feel her chest tighten with emotion. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she instinctively reached to hug him back. Burying her face into his chest, carefully, she forced her determined words out so that he would understand her feelings. "I will get better at this, I promise..."
