i get what yr saying about not making jokes but its hard bc someone also shouldnt be forced to disclose thr status as autistic in order to be valid so i dunno what the right balance is?
the balance is not publicly making jokes about autism if it isnt clear to your audience that youre not allistic and making fun of autistic people as othersĀ

I want to like the fact that huss is touching on these kinds of subjects but I feel like he treats them as a joke, or like he's baiting. He just throws out one issue, spends an upd8 or two vaguely talking about them, and then he moves onto the next. I feel like he's just trying to fit in as many marginalized groups as possible before the ending, to make it seem like he cares. But I just can't buy it.
if he cares so much heād issue a genuine apology for the racist and ableist things heās said- he hasnāt even tried toĀ āmake upā for his past blatant racism in the upd8s, come to think of it.Ā
and now heās treating lgbt+ matters as something he can throw out of the blue and not actually give a label too- his characters are allowed to have these thoughts but god forbid they use a label likeĀ ābisexualāĀ āaromanticā orĀ ānonbinaryā for them (and the relating readers) to feel comfortable with

hate to be negative and cynical, but I don't think huss will develop the idea of jake being aro, its just baiting (at least to me). the dialogue kept coupling the idea of being aro with ideas of self-loathing and that terrible "forever alone" trope. and huss has done this sort of thing before (not letting dave give a label to his sexuality while simultaneously having john say hes not a homosexual over and over again)
hussie goes for brownie points with his inconsistent gay singularity thing while simultaneously ignoring characters to use a label beyond the L and the G
this upd8 is very nice and all but portraying abuse as comedy for years and then suddenly turning it into a serious matter is kind of a manipulative tactic and im still convinced hussie is trying to cover up all his past fuckups by dealing with serious matters that came more or less out of nowhere
