RENGOKU 

i. rengoku is honestly A LOT like tifaine’s older brother : he’s enthusiastic and energetic and there’s passion in everything he does!! this isn’t plot-specific, but that familiarity alone would make him one of her favorite pillars. tbh she’s shocked he’d even pay attention to such a low-ranked slayer b/c ‘holy shit he HAS to have something better to do.’

ii. training sessions!! she really wants to incorporate her brother’s sword style, since it focuses on building momentum for really powerful strikes, but lowkey it doesn’t always translate well b/c she has potential but still needs to refine her skills (like?? she’s DEFINITELY almost broken her arms a few times while trying it out full-force.)

iii. tifaine’s mother used to be really loving / attentive / quite literally the light of her life, but after her older sister died, she really started to drown herself in the loss and seek comfort at the bottom of the bottle. it’s not something tifaine really knows how to cope with or even talk about, because it’s not something she feels that other people can understand?? but, since that does mirror rengoku’s experiences with his father, i can see her actually opening up to him about it (especially if they end up with a mentor/mentee or adoptive sibling dynamic.)

i.  sabito🤝🏼 tifaine = struggling with a sense of inferiority and frustration b/c they failed to kill a certain demon /// but no, seriously, i think there’s a parallel in their near-obsessions w/ slaying demons that future threads could explore (even though that feeling presents differently in each of them.)

Possible Relationship: (Friends, Found-Family) I’d imagine that Ryu would be reminiscent of her love for her big brother as Nezuko to Tanjiro. They’ve both lost family they’ve had a close relationship with and Ryu has always wanted to be a big sister. I could see her admiring Tanjiro for being so strong at such a young age and wanting to be a figure in his life he can turn to.

Plot: Adventure  \ Rescue Assignment

The two were placed on an assignment and have just ensured the safety of a small town. And while the demon itself wasn’t terribly strong, the damage it caused throughout the town is devastating. The two agree to help out a bit before they return back to the Butterfly Estate, when one of the injured, (maybe a younger child), approaches the two and asks if the two can bring them to their family member.  (I’m thinking they wanted to help out there family by leaving home and finding somewhere they can work.) And they agree to help!

It’s a pretty simple premise, but I think it leaves a lot of room open for them to bond and chat! Plus, trying to carry someone injured while ensuring their safety can be pretty difficult! (Especially if they encounter a demon during this trip. :eyes: ) My thoughts are that Tanjiro growing up poor would relate in some way to this child and the two of them would never shy away from helping someone in need. Just some good old bonding over adventure!

Plot: Fluff \ Bonding

Since we’ve kind of already plotted something more adventurous for them, I thought of something that gives them time to get to know one another! In one of their headcanon posts, you wrote that they’re an insomniac and a workaholic. But they also don’t like having their work interrupted. So, I’m thinking Ryu subtly ventures into their workspace without disturbing them and places a wrapped meal. (A bribe with some fish and veggies from town, cause she can’t cook.) And a small note that briefly denotes that they’ve been working for a few days now and she would like to have lunch! And hopefully they oblige and they can talk and bond and stuff. Some good old fluffy friendship bonding.

                       ❝  er  ...  rengoku-san.  everyone  in  your  family’s  been  a  demon  slayer,  right?  ❞  or,  so  goes  the  gossip  on  the  grounds  that  he  happens  to  overhear.  together  the  two  sit,  and  as  zenitsu  struggles  to  find  the  right  words,  the  hold  on  the  sheathed  kantana  on  his  lap  increases.  here  he  sits,  with  a  man  who’s  made  a  great  name  for  himself.  while  he  on  the  other  hand  is  a  nameless  warrior,  yet  to  make  a  meaningful  mark  on  the  world.  the  flame  pillar  is  nothing  short  from  amazing,  one  who  shines  so  bright  like  the  sun,  zenitsu  cannot  help  but  feel  overshadowed  by  his  presence.  ❝  all  those  expectations.  aren’t  ---  don’t  they  overwhelm  you?  ❞

despite his instincts and keen timing for slipping away before prolonged conversations can be struck, somehow, the flame hashira always manages to surprise him. this instance brings about rapid blinks from two toned eyes as he stares down at the bento being offered out. how did he...? 

but then iguro’s attention is redirected and a slightly amused puff of air leaves his nose. well, he’s not going to turn away perfectly good food. arms extend and he takes the box with both hands before he bows his own head in thanks, a slight movement compared to the other.
