Milwaukee, Kinzie, & Desplaines in 1955 by Chicago Transit Authority Via Flickr: “A CTA #56 Milwaukee bus crosses the intersection of Milwaukee/Kinzie/Desplaines on its way northwest in February, 1955. This view faces southeast, generally looking down Milwaukee. Kinzie crosses from the upper left to the lower right, while Desplaines is the street that comes from the lower left and ramps up to the right edge of the image. At the time, Milwaukee was a thru-street from Lake Street on up. Today this bridge is gone and Milwaukee essentially begins here (though there is a short section at the south end, between Lake and Fulton, that remains). As further reference, on the left, where the Banquet Hall Restaurant & Lounge is, is where Blommer Chocolate is today. Where the tracks are on the lower right is where the Jewel-Osco (and the Divvy station out in front on Desplaines). Behind the Milwaukee bus is where a park now lies.”
