Lizzagon “Little live” toy at retail outlet. I love the idea to have a slap band, but I I think the body should be smaller. can’t seeing that being very easy to wear LOL
On week 6 or the last week before the formative assessment, we were asked to go to Sim Lim Square and observe everything of interest in a group of four or five and then document our design problem of choice so that we can share it with the class in a proper presentation when we return.
My group was a group of four with me, Sue Ann, Cheeun, and Vergie. And we chose the 3 meals a day restaurant as our design problem. The main issue here was the unorganised ordering queue and messy seating arrangement. During lunch hour, there will be long queues and customers will block the pathways so the signages on where to order and obstruct the passerby who are not the customers. So they need to fix their queueing system and organise it more neatly.
Beside the queueing problem, the tables are also a problem. As you can see in the picture some of the tables are going out from the store and it is obstructing the passerby. We notice that the tables and or chair are not all the same inside and outside, so it might confuse the customers. So we propose that they label the table and only using one side and not both sides to put their table as that area is a public area.
That’s the design problem, as for the critical self reflectivity, I think our group did have a bit of a communication problem. Me and SueAnn didn’t have any problem because we’re close, It’s fine too with Cheeun since we talked sometimes because of our table arrangements in class so we sit close to each other and naturally we talk a few times, but with Vergie I think I’m quite awkward with her and the other group member too. I think it’s because we sit quite far apart so we don’t really talk with each other before. At first I thought that she was just passive but I think she’s just introverted, so I try to reach out to her first every once in a while to ask her opinion or if she had any suggestions, and she answers. So it works out pretty well in the end.
Self-reflectivity involves thoughtful contemplation of your behaviors, thoughts, and desires. It requires discipline and intentionality, which may be challenging but valuable. Without personal reflection, we risk living without evaluations or critical analysis, potentially keeping us in unhappy circumstances without seeking solutions.
With the target audience being people wanting to get electronic devices fixed in mind, we collectively believe that the layout of the mall is too messy for customers to shop. In addition, there are too many empty stores on the lower levels and clubs are also randomly situated next to electronic stores on the top level, proving to be troublesome to go to the top level just to get a device fixed.
We devised solutions to tackle these issues. One option involves relocating electronic stores to more accessible and vacant lower-levels spaces, though regular customers may find this unnecessary given their familiarity with the current layout. Additionally, rent discrepancies between levels may pose challenges for shop owners. Another approach is categorizing floor levels for systematic organization, improving customer convenience. Yet, this may lead to heightened competition and potential profit loss for stores in the same category on the same level. Lastly, installing directories near lift buttons offers easy access to store information, though it may incur additional costs and contribute to information overload alongside existing advertisements.
Concerning the design challenge, I have observed that I possess strong sense of self-awareness and regulation, enabling effective analysis of potential solutions while empathizing with customers and store owners. Collaborative design efforts with my groupmates has further refined my critical thinking and openness to diverse solutions, sharpening my social skills.

I may not have mentioned it here before, but i occasionally work on home designs as a hobby
and I am really struggling with the hypothetical layout of this hypothetical living room
Going to ramble a bit under the cut to hopefully try and figure it out, thoughts and suggestions welcome if anyone cares to share.
So the front to back dimensions of this room are established by other rooms & the planned layout of the house in general and is set at 14′ 6″
The side to side dimensions are flexible and can be adjusted to fit the room/layout.
Super simple image to clarify some things.
The doorway to the master bedroom is 3′ w and about 1′ back from the front wall. The side towards the dining/kitchen is completely open/doesn’t have a wall there to create a large open room between the three. The wall on the back has floor to ceiling windows out onto a deck overlooking a private garden. (Windows can be adjusted to suit layout/furniture but should still be a prominent feature of the wall).
The ceiling of the room follows the shed style roofline, being lower on the front side and higher on the back side.
Furniture wise the goal is to have
-Shelving/entertainment center/tv
-Large couch/sectional
-2 Desks
Extra shelving or other furniture would probably be nice as appropriate but those are the basics that need to be included.
First Layout I planned had the shelving/tv on the front wall, the couch in a shallow U shape against the back wall, and one desk on either side of the couch
I liked the feel/flow of this idea but it puts the couch quite far away from the tv which i worried would not be comfortable (though i suppose depending on the size of the tv...)
Second layout i tried I put the tv/shelving on the wall to the master bedroom and had the couch in an ‘L’ shape with one leg against the back wall and the other across the open space between living room and dining/kitchen. I didn’t bother figuring out where to put the desks because I had already realized I really didnt like the flow of this one.
I then thought about maybe having the couch in an L shape along the master bed wall & the back wall with the tv/shelving floating between the living and dining/kitchen. But I worry that either the furniture holding the tv is going to be too bulky/interrupt the flow, or the tv would be left in too vulnerable and be likely to be bumped into/knocked over.
and yeah. now im pretty stumped. So far, the first layout has been my favorite but there's still something... not quite right about it.
This is a picture of some blinds in the living room of my house. This represents a problem because they are broken. When we were pulling the blinds down to close it, the string holding them together pulled through the bottom. Now the blinds are crooked and I have tried to fix it but it always goes back to this same state. This is a design problem for me because things should not break with normal use.
To tackle the problem at hand we would need to change the design so that the string does not get pulled through the bottom. Maybe change the design to be more sturdy so that it does not break with normal use. A curtain is something that can really make or break a room and looking at it is very unpleasing to the eye.
We have already identified a problem with this design so the next step would be to design a version that does not have the same problem with functionality. We could swap out the thin string that holds it up now with a thicker piece of string so that it will not pull through.
