Summery: A life steeped in blood and wicked monsters was all Karkat Vantas had come to know. He played menial office worker by day. Well, as menial as sampling demonic blood and dirt samples can be and by night he did field work. Karkat only took up this life out of the need to eat and provide for himself. Having lived on the streets shortly after growing too old for being a ward of the state he was left to fend for himself. Which, he did. He cared this bloody life for himself, rather he enjoyed it or not. That is, until one strange demon comes knocking at his door.

Dirk placed a hand on Dave’s trembling shoulder, and as he began to sob, Dirk pulled him in close, keeping his face planted firmly against his chest. In turn, Dave clung onto him with his little fists shaking. Dave had always been small, but right now, he seemed infinitely smaller like just gripping him a little too hard would break him. Dirk wished all his attention could be on him, but his eyes were glued to the scene playing out just beyond the boulder they were hiding behind. It was like being trapped in a nightmare that he couldn’t look away from. His forked tail whipped around nervously, and his instincts told him to move, but he just…couldn’t.
