A feeling of familiarity began to spread in her heart at his response. To know that he too had lost his world and was looking for a way to save it. A way that required the seed of the Tree of Mana. Martel knew how horrible it felt to lose your home, and all the people you loved and cared for. To travel alone with the burden of finding a way to save that world, even after the world had died. It was a terrible burden to bear alone.
Still, she found herself smiling despite all that, turning her gaze to the tree once more. âIf youâre looking for a seed, then surely you have come far too soon.â She replied. âFrom what I know of this tree, it will not be mature enough to produce a seed for at least a millennia or two.â
The legends of Derris-Kharlan passed down by the Elves had claimed their tree was eons old when it started to wither away. The spirit of mana at the time gave the elves a seed to plant on a new world, and they had descended to Aselia. And the Kharlan Tree of old had been close to six thousand years old when they had tried to save it from the fate of itsâ parent. Due to the nature of itsâ withering, it had only been able to produce a single seed, when it should have had at least three or four to produce at that age.
Emerald eyes turned away from the tree, and Martel sighed. âHowever, you might not be as far off as you think.â She added, glancing at the man again.
âDhaos, is it?â She asked, stepping away from the tree, and only slightly closer to him. âWhat is it you hope to achieve by obtaining a seed? Iâm sure itâs for the revival of your world, of that I have no doubt. But for what reason do you seek it? Is it for yourself? Or are you trying to save the people you care about?â
There was no right or wrong answer for this question, at least not in her mind. She was merely curious as to his reasoning, why he was here.

By which he means youâre right. He doesnât deserve her. Heâs told her so many times himself. But she insists she loves him and something about love being âgivenâ not âdeservedâ...mushy speeches aside, heâll fight anyone who tries to take her away.
