Hi, so I've been reading your content in general and it's been wonderful to see Homestuck from a new perspective (specially all the ships) , but I'm curious about the aspect of one of your ships, specifically Karkat <3< Dell/Hal. How does the vacillation part work out for them?
It works out for Eridan and Calliope because the first one is an idiot (derogative(affectionate)) who is happy with all kinds of attention, plus being okay with making out with Karkat, while cherubic romance is normally only pitch so for Calliope it's actually an attractive bonus.
So I've been wondering how is it with Hal. Does the vacillation keep the romance from going too extreme in pitch or is fundamentally necessary for it to even start, are Karkat's pale/flushed feelings something that Hal actually likes, etc?

so hal expresses, half-jokingly (every joke he tells is only half a joke lmfao) that he and dirk are having a really good feelings jam, and they should take it to the hat pile. longtime viewers already know that having feelings jams in piles = pale, or at the very least, conciliatory, type behavior. we see in the fact that arquiusprite becomes veryyyy obsequious towards dirk specifically, and it's in line with the Sylph Thing anyway, that this is probably where hal's genuine emotions towards dirk are? like he's a fan. he's fond of the guy. he would like to solve Dirk's problems and make him better.

i think . this goes into hc territory so take it with a grain of salt. but i think hal might also have a vacillation problem. and it's only fine with his other two quads because terezi thinks it's fucking hilarious and nepeta has Heart insight into his true feelings anyway.
ergo, i think he and karkat would be like, vile. like everyone thinks karkat and calliope are pitch, or that karkat and eridan are pitch and karkat is cheating on calliope in pitch... but they think karkat and hal are either red or pale, the way they're constantly doing lovey-dovey PDA and getting all up in each others' shit. it's all hatred though. pure, lunatic hatred. it's genuinely sickening
