Amalfi by Escher
John Richard on FB: "This is a follow-up to my last post about Metamorphosis I, II ,III. It shows what is said to be the inspiration for those and other works of his. The 1931 photograph by M.C. Escher shows his wife, Jetta, sitting on a cliff overlooking the Italian town of Atrani on the Amalfi coast."
In the first post he points out the church, Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena, in Metamorphosis II
