“Shared Skeleton”, the first release from Deerthrone’s self-titled debut album begins with an onslaught of distorted feedback but quickly unfurls into an intricate and layered track. It combines elements of shoegaze, math-rock, and even black-metal into a unique palette of sounds. Lyrically, the song explores the hardships of trying to keep a struggling relationship alive, and the fallout of its inevitable failure. It is told from the perspective of one of the individuals in the relationship, and explores how the memories they carry of themselves and this significant other shape their own present and future.
