"Waiting?"
There was an uneasy silence as the weird kid kept walking, seemingly over entertaining Twilight's inquiries. Twilight was left with no other option but to follow him, else he loses sight of him too. Some part of him that felt worryingly like his inner wolf urged him to keep close, telling him something bad would happen otherwise. And so, Twilight did. Those instincts had kept him alive thus far, after all.
"Yeah" the kid muttered, low enough that were it not for Twilight's advanced hearing he may not have heard. "My big brother always says I tend to run off, and he has magic to locate people, so he tells me to stay put."
Their steps didn't falter. A slow, lulling rhythm. The crunch of leaves the only sound to echo around them. it unnerved Twilight.
"That sounds convenient."
And that 'big brother' would definitely need it, because the kid did everything but stay put. He jumped over rocks, kept turning directions seemingly at random and, if Twilight didn't see the confidence in the strides, he would almost think they were walking in circles. The kid, at ease even in such an eerie place, only hummed a tune that sounded vaguely familiar.
As they advances, the branches of the trees closed in, as if they were arms and hands reaching for those that lost their path, ready to snatch them away. Twilight walked a little faster, a tad closer to the other.
"So" talking, just to fill the silence. Just so Twilight didn't feel as if he were suffocating despite oxygen reaching his lungs just fine. "How did you end up in this forest?"
"How did you?"
The tone sounded almost accusatory. Defensive.
"Fair enough."
After all, Twilight didn't know either. It was all very... strange, for lack of a better word.
"Seems like we'll be stuck together for a bit."
"Mhm."
"So, what's yer name?"
That, out of everything, was the one thing that made the kid pause. Eyes wide, he stared at Twilight.
"I'm not giving you my name." Weird way to put it, but okay. Different eras and people had different customs. Perhaps that brother of his forbade him of sharing it with strangers. Reasonable. The wording was still rude, tough. "I guess you can call me Mask, at least for now."
"That's a weird name."
Mask shrugged.
Sighing, Twilight shrugged. "Fine. Be that way. Name's Twilight."
"And you called my nickname weird."
