"just then, just then i saw your picture in my mind
oh despite, despite the blue that blurs your smile
those petals dancing on the wind across the sky
as the indigo blue fills my eyes"

Deep Indigo
A starter for @nobletoatea
Freshly arranged flowers. Curtains drawn just enough to bring a comfortable light into the room without sacrificing the framing of the scenery outside. The subtle sweetness in the air from the wagashi—she’d spent all night making sure they’d be as pretty as they were tasty! Each and every item on the table was arranged for the sake of aesthetic rather than efficiency. But then again, there was nothing efficient about tea ceremonies, was there? The right situation could call for chanoyu that would last for hours, through a meal and on. A test of endurance. And a performance put on not for the actor’s satisfaction, but purely for the sake of their guest. Thankfully, theirs wasn’t nearly so extensive. Still...It was a lot of pressure and just the sort of thing that theoretically should have made the deer crumble under the weight of her own anxiety. But the rosette seemed perfectly calm and shockingly graceful in that moment—fitting of a princess for once in her life. A spoonful of matcha. A cup whose sheen reflected the powder as it fell like snowfall. And…a boy with hair and eyes the color of dripping wisterias, the sort that grew in great big bunches that hung from trellises and stroked your cheeks as you walked underneath. The first time she saw him, she wondered if it felt like that to him when a breeze brushed through his locks. But she didn’t ask. It had taken all of her courage to invite him to share in tea ceremony with her—and all of her self-control not to anxiously blurt out that she had overheard him gushing about his passion for tea with some classmates. Because making friendships via eavesdropping probably didn’t go very well. Every twirl of the whisk brought to mind those deep violet petals twirling in the spring winds, whipping up the contents of that cup until they’d achieved a frothiness to tickle his tongue. Practiced motions that brought a stillness to her heart in a way that even meditation had never managed. A chance to focus on simple elegance without complicating it all with the messiness that often cluttered her head. Satisfied with the result, she’d gingerly set the drink before him at just the right angle to let the colors of those sweets catch in the glass. With all the care – and faint blushing - of a girl offering valentines’ chocolates, she smiled and nodded the go ahead. “I-it might be a little different from tea here in Fodlan but—” A shy glance towards the treats she’d prepared. Picking out one whose color and shape were reminiscent of her own namesake, her expression softened fondly. “—I hope that t-together, it’ll bring you some happiness.” Like his acceptance of her invitation had brought her. She didn’t know if she was getting any better at making friends – and there was certainly a new sort of nervousness associated with inviting someone into her room like this – but if he enjoyed this quiet moment even a little, it would be well worth it to her.
Reflexing on my life with Yorushika. (If you didn’t watch their music videos you should, seriously, they are so great.)
