To promote his latest work in The Night Manager, Hugh quotes from Shakespeareâs play Julius Caesar:
Mischief, thou are afoot. Take thou what course thou wilt! (Act 3, Scene 2)
And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war . . . (Act 3, Scene 1)
Gaius Julius Caesar was a politician in ancient Rome. He gained immense power through a combination of inspired strategy and ruthless ambition. About a year after his appointment as dictator for life, he was assassinated by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus, long-time antagonists he had placed in the Senate (most likely following the advice of the proverb, âkeep your friends close, but your enemies closerâ).
The Night Manager currently airs on BBC One at 9 p.m. GMT. It will also be shown on the cable channel AMC beginning in April 2016.
