“You decorate faster than Henry. Which is...really saying something. I’m almost impressed.”
Kicking Off December with “Winter Wonders” – A Year of Storytelling Shaina Tranquilino December 1, 2024
As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting on an incredible journey—12 months of weaving tales, each month dedicated to its own theme. What began as a personal challenge has blossomed into a cherished tradition, where each theme serves as a compass guiding my imagination and storytelling. For December 2024 the theme for this month couldn’t be more fitting: Winter Wonders.
A Year of Stories, One Theme at a Time
Looking back, this blog series has been a celebration of creativity, discipline, and connection. Themed storytelling has been a joy, allowing me to explore a spectrum of genres and tones. More importantly, it has offered me a chance to connect with readers, as your feedback and enthusiasm have made this journey all the more rewarding.
Why “Winter Wonders”?
Winter has always been a season that sparks the imagination. The chill in the air, the blanket of snow, and the holiday spirit create a sense of magic and mystery. For this month, I want to dive into the heart of winter—not just as a backdrop, but as a character in itself. From enchanting snow-covered landscapes to cozy hearths, from tales of winter’s hardships to the joy of seasonal traditions, December’s stories will explore the beauty and depth of the season.
Expect tales of wonder, resilience, and maybe even a sprinkle of holiday mischief. There might be a story about an intrepid traveler braving a winter storm, or a child discovering the secret of a magical snow globe. Perhaps there will even be a touch of the fantastical—a snow queen, an ice dragon, or ancient winter spirits.
What’s Next?
This final month of the series is a celebration, but it’s also a starting point for what comes next. As December unfolds, I’ll be sharing as many short stories that come to mind, inspired by Winter Wonders. By the end of the month, I hope to have created a tapestry of winter-inspired tales that bring joy, wonder, and warmth to your hearts.
Once this series concludes, I plan to reflect on the year and explore ways to keep this storytelling momentum alive. Whether that’s through a new series, a compilation of the year’s stories, or a completely different project, I’m excited about what lies ahead.
To my readers, thank you for being part of this journey. Your comments, insights, and encouragement have been the wind beneath my wings this year. As we step into the magical month of December, I invite you to curl up with a warm drink and join me for the final chapter of this year-long storytelling adventure.
Let’s uncover the Winter Wonders together. Stay tuned for the first story of the month—it’s coming soon!
Happy reading, and may your December be filled with warmth, joy, and a little touch of magic.

Star Wars
After battling with lack of quality, we decided to use the flash for this image. Unfortunately, the results were not as anticipated. It turned out to be darker, and more dull. It was dull to the point where the man and the woman in the image are hardly identified. Captured in a low angle, the camera was able to photograph the Christmas tree all the way to the top.

Starry Night.
Look at the stars, look how they shine for you. Well, they don’t shine for you. They shine because of the lights behind the stars. Anyways, these lights are beautiful in person but this picture doesn’t do it justice at all. This picture came in third for the month, and for many reasons.
The magnitude of this image was magnificent. The leading lines, or the lines in the frame that lead the viewers’ eyes on a certain path, attracted the audience and forced them to view the entire image. Captured in a low angle, the camera was able to photograph the Christmas tree all the way to the top; capturing all the details of the tree. However, these details were not clear enough. By looking at the picture, you can determine the general details. Yet, there were many, many details in this image that the camera wasn’t able to capture vividly.
Deck the Malls.
Looking back at these images, we felt a traditional and modest tale merge with the over-the-top Christmas theme. These two images represent the distinct, modern takes on Christmas.
We discovered that “too much lighting” does exist, and is in fact, distracting. Christmas lights and decorations filled up the scene, causing the smaller subjects of the photos to be blurred and translucent. Additionally, these two images were photographed in a low angle, in attempt to capture all aspects of the image. This gives the subjects of the image a sense of power and admiration because we look up to it from our angle. The images were captured in a long shot, where all aspects of the image, background or foreground, were given the same importance in the picture. This contributes to the balance of the images.
A Golden Christmas
These two images are considered our top images of December. The quality and perfection in detail of the two images was astounding. The Casio Exilim truly outdid itself in this image.
Surprisingly, both of these images were captured in the same location. We can construe this due to the lighting of the scene. The lighting of the scene forced the camera to adjust its automatic focus prior to capturing the images. This proves that the camera is smart enough to understand its surroundings and adapt to it. The light created a bright mood, which consequently evoked a golden and joyous meaning revealed in the photos. Since these picture were excellent in terms of quality, it is easier for the eyes to perceive and grasp.
