Christmas Countdown. Day 8. Kageyama Tobio.
Youâre the first person I feel so comfortable with. Youâre the first girl Iâve ever gotten so close to. Youâre the first girl Iâve ever fallen in love with.
When his peers were interested in toys, Kageyama was interested in volleyball. When his peers were interested in video games, Kageyama was interested in volleyball. And even when his peers started taking an interest in girls, Kageyama still was interested in volleyball. He had never been interested in such things. He lived a solitary life and he was comfortable with that. Until Kageyama met you.Â
- Sorry to bother you, - asked you suddenly, while Kageyama and Chigaya were having dinner. You all were invited to the National Training Camp: you as a manager and assistant coach, Kageyama as a player. - I just want to give you your todayâs statistics, - you sat down between them, put your food on the table, and handed them a stack of paper. - Please read this when you have time. You can ask me questions about statistic at any time.
First year. Manager. Data Analyst. (Name).
- Do you mind if I eat with you? - you smiled politely. Boys just muttered something like: âNoâ, and then you started having dinner.Â
Kageyama looked at you sideways, then couldnât resist looking the statistics. He was impressed, because the data were very accurate.Â
- Successful sets and unsuccessful sets, how many serves did I, jumping height⌠Wow! Thereâs even tips for further trainings! - muttered Kageyama with a twinkle in his eyes, while he was becoming absorbed in reading. - And what is it?! - he practically shoved papers in your face.Â
You pulled away from papers and looked at Kageyama, when he mumbled: âSorry" with an air of embarrassment, because he realized that he got too carried away.Â
- Donât worry, - answered you with sweet smile, after a short laugh. - Itâs statistic of your teamwork with other players.Â
- Cool! Did you collect these data by yourself? - Chigaya asked in surprise, eyes were fixed on papers in his hands.Â
- Of course! Iâm Inarizaki manager after all, - you said this with considerable pride.Â
It would be better if you were our manager.
- By the way, (Name)-san, - Kageyama approached and whispered in your ear with a worried expression on his face. - Why is Miya-san  looking at us so strangely?
You turned and glanced at Atsumu. He looked like he was ready to kill someone.
- Who knows⌠- answered you, puzzled. - Maybe, he wants to be your fried but has no idea, how to get closer? He has strange communication skillsâŚÂ
This evening Kageyama felt uncomfortable in a new place with unfamiliar people. He tried to find a place where he could read statistics alone and write about it in his diary. But, finally, he found you, sitting in the hall with your tablet. For some reason, he hid behind the wall and peeked out again, watching you. You rubbed your eyes and kept working.Â
Sheâs working so hardâŚ
- Can I sit here? - Kageyama asked awkwardly, uncertainly fingering the paper in his hands.
- Sure, - you just smiled.Â
For this time he always looked for you to sit together in silence, working on own business. Sometimes you and Kageyama exchanged a few words: about volleyball and statistic, mostly. You prised his diary when you knew about it, and he felt his cheeks were burning. One day you brought him a carton of milk and said: âThis one for you. I just noticed that you drink milk every dayâ. His heart was beating so fast and loud, that Kageyama was worried if he was ill.Â
- Here, thisâs for you, - Kageyama put a bottle of iced tea next to you and turned away with a blush on his cheeks. - I just- I justâŚ
- Thank you, Tobio! - smiled you brightly and opened the bottle. - Youâre so kind!
His heart skipped a beat, and then began to beat faster.Â
Why do I almost get a heart attack every time I talk with her?
- Are~ Tobio-kun, I didnât know ya kept a diary, - Atsumu quickly snatched the diary out of his hands, while Kageyama was taking notes and sitting on a bench. - Well, what do we have here?Â
But Miya didnât listen to him, he struck a pose and began to read:
- âToday (Name)-san gave me one more cartoon of milk and told about my statisticâ⌠Statistic isnât interestinâ⌠O! "Today I felt bad: my heart was beating fast and my face was burning. Iâve to go for a checkup when I get back from training camp.â - Atsumu started laughing.
- Return it! - Kageyama snatched the diary from Miyaâs hands and held it tightly to his chest. His ears were red with embarrassment. - Whatâs funny?Â
- Huh? - Atsumu stopped laughing, raised eyebrow and grinned. - Tobio-kun, ya ainât ill. Ya have crush on (Name)-chan.Â
 Iâve crush?.. On (Name)-san?..Â
- But such a goody-two-shoes doesnât stand a chance against me. Iâve stronger opponents, than ya, - he left with triumphant smile. - See ya later, Tobio-kun!
Then Kageyama thought it was nothing. But now he understood that it made sense. The longer you knew each other, the deeper your connection became. And one day Kageyama just realized that he didnât need anyone else but you.Â
Yes, Iâve crush on (Name)-san.
He knew you were the only one. Heâll never have such a deep connection with anyone else if he loses you. Kageyama knew: he should confess you. He should do it before he leaves for Italy.
- (Name)-san, Iâll leave for Italy today, - Tobio called you. - Can we meet? I promise it wonât take long.
- Sure, - you answered. - See you!
And after a while, you were standing in front of Kageyama, waiting for his words.Â
- (Name)-san, as you know, Iâll leave for Italy today, - he made a short pause and then continued: - Please, go with me!
- Huh? - you just blowed, your eyes widened. - This is very sudden. What is this all of a sudden?Â
- Because, - Kageyama stopped and looked down. - Because I love you, - he looked you straight in the eye and said in one breath. - If you have feelings for me too, please, go with me, - he took your hand and put the ticket in. - The plane leaves tonight. Iâll wait for you.
And then, without a word, he turned and walked away quickly. So you wonât notice his blush.
Youâre left alone with a ticket in your fluttering hands, your lips unable to form a response while you watch him walk away.Â
He- he will wait for you?
You glance down to the ticket in your hands- the flight to Italy. Tonight.
To say that his confession surprised you would be an understatement- you expected many things when he suddenly pulled you with him, but not a confession.Â
He didnât even gave you the chance to say it back. Just these three words- you want him to hear them. You need him to know that the feeling is mutual, that you love him too, that you also have feelings for him.Â
And you donât want him to leave you. You donât want to imagine how your life would be without the black-haired setter, who easily found a way into your heart- with his stoic persistence, with his adorable and awkward smile- but itâs the cutest smile you have ever seen. The way he always gently reaches for your hand when he leads you through crowded places, making sure that you donât get lost- or how he remembers your favorite drink from the vending machine and always gets one for you too.
You love him- and you donât want this to end- hell, it didnât even started, you didnât even have a proper date yet. You canât let him go like this- and thatâs the only thought in your mind when you pack your suitcase- with just enough clothes for a few days, but you will figure the rest out. You cannot just move with him today, but you need to spend time with him to figure out where you want this to go.Â
Your hands nervously shake when you get into the cab, and you once again hold the ticket in your hands.
You see his familiar figure from afar- his dark hair hidden under a basecap, and a pair of dark sunglasses on his nose. Is he trying to hide from someone?
âTobio,â you hesitantly say, while you tap on his shoulder. He turns around, facing you, staring at you for a few seconds- before he instantly wraps his arms around you. âY/n,â he whispers, one of his hands buried in your hair, while the other rests on the low of your back. âYou came.â You involuntarily hold your breath, his sudden near making you shy, but also comfortable.
Your cheeks heat up when you confess- and a relived sigh leaves his lips. He slightly pulls back after a while, just enough to look at you, a genuine smile curling his lips upwards, while his eyes are still covered by the glasses. âI was hoping you would come.âÂ
âYou werenât sure then? But you didnât even gave me enough time to speak after you confessed.â you accusingly look at him, but your gaze turns soft when you look at him with the glasses on. It reminds you of the day he tried to sneak into the Inarizaki volleyball practice back when you were still a manager. But youâre an adult now, you both are- and you might not know what the future holds for you, but you want to be with him. With the man you love.Â
âPlease take off the glasses. You look like a criminal.â
âBut-â he helplessly looks at you, and you chuckle at his startled expression.
âWait. Keep them on. You stole my heart after all.âÂ
âIs that Tobio Kageyama? With a girlfriend?â
âWho is she? Kageyama-san, could you please state your relationship to this woman?â
âMr. Kageyama, please look at this direction!â
Youâre both met with flashlights of cameras and Kageyama protectively places his arm around your shoulder and pulls you closer.Â
âIâm sorry. I should have known that they would be even in Italy after the game yesterday. Just pretend that they are not here.âÂ
âItâs okay.â you give him a beaming smile and pull him down to you to whisper in his ear. His face lights up excitedly when he understands what you just said.
âAre you sure?â he looks deep into your eyes to search for any signs of hesitation- but he canât find any.
You nod- and in the next second he cupped your face and leaned down to kiss you- while screams and gasps fill the airport behind you.
