I have to say, was Saints Row ever really serious? Like, the first game, which could probably be called the most down to earth, still had a pimp cane shotgun and Gat's entire personality/look, and you could wear a samurai helmet if you wanted. The times the first game tried to go all serious crime drama were -hilarious- because of how OTT it was.

The first game was also the one that introduced the Insurance Fraud activity, which in itself is ridiculous, especially with the wild ragdolling going on as the Playa sends themselves sailing through the air. You help a completely regular middle-class suburban housewife drive around and deal drugs while her kids are in school. One of the free DLC packs even gives you a Santa outfit complete with beard. There is plenty that's absurd and funny even in the first Saints Row game that a lot of people tend to just gloss over either because it's been so long since they last played it, or they've never actually gotten to play it and only know about the main story missions.

Beast Wars almost perfectly mirrors BTAS--BW got better as it went on, whereas BTAS's last season is questionable (barring certain standout eps). Same with their follow-ups; Batman Beyond was excellent, Beast Machines not so much. Spider-Man is a better 90s cartoon than most people give it credit for, and X-Men had some great arcs (even if on the whole the show could be rather unintentionally funny due to the ripped-from-the-page dialogue).

Yeah, Spider-Man’s got a lot of good episodes, but it’s definitely nowhere near the levels of the Masterpieces. X-Men, too--but both of those shows are ones that have scope and ambition FAR beyond their budgets and nuance, but they STILL reach for it and in their audacity deliver spectacular shows with a lot of great moments (I’m not sure how Evolution compares to X-Men, but I KNOW Spectacular Spider-Man is the Platinum Standard for the webslinger).

....Gargoyles exists, too, but considering the fact that I never even finished that show because of how bored/disappointed I was when Goliath started roaming the world, the writing’s on the wall for that one.

Maybe Animaniacs? “Best-Written” doesn’t have to be just action shows. Comedies work, too, and I’ll admit that I’m not too familiar with 90s Simpsons.

I can't believe I've seen someone trying desperately to die on the hill that knowing vegetables have different flavours is somehow white supremacy, and I can't believe that this site costs nothing to be on save sanity. Your responses are giving me life.

I genuinely don't think most game devs have the integrity, compassion, or intelligence to put in a story with parallels to real world events into a game without making it incredibly tasteless and offensive (unintentionally or otherwise.)

remembering to hire people that arent cisgender heterosexual white men to write and develop would help with this a lot i think

Yeah, I just got curious and flipped through that issue of IDW 2 and I'm like "Okay, ouch, not the time?" Geez, this is possibly the single worst time to be running a storyline like this.

Yeah my gf read it through and said it was really bad... They coulda just pushed off the release date and have rewritten it tbh, but yikes
