#decade redraw

I was 15 when I drew that first picture! It was the second picture I had ever done of that character, named Scael, who was my first “human” character! And it was a rabbit hole I never got out of! (heres the first picture I had ever done of him)

Sometimes I think I haven’t progressed that far in my art, and I definitely feel like I could be farther along than I am, but if 15 year old me could see the stuff I draw now then I think he’d shit himself. How I draw now is the kind of art teenage me looked up to. Also somehow it got even more anime

I think originally Scael was supposed to turn into a dragon, I just thought “oh hell yeah thats cool!” But I quickly dropped it and took him out of a modern setting and put him into a medieval type setting, gave him a snow leopard companion, and slapped some amnesia on there for good measure! I eventually gave the “Turns into a dragon” characteristic to a different character of mine (until taking it away from her as well and I had her turn into a cat like creature instead).

I used to have a lot of fun playing around with characters and their backstories and what they could and could not do (like turn into dragons). Despite it being, you know, “Mary-sue” as fuck or whatever, I just had fun! I had so much fun creating outlandish stories and self inserts, and I think thats what was best for me (or any budding artist). It wasn’t dumb, because I created it, and it meant something to me. If I had stopped because I didn’t think it was good enough, then I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Last thing, but I actually redrew the 2011 picture in late 2012. I thought about adding it to the set but eehhh its, like, barely the same (and looks bad hnngg)
