February 18, 2015: Communist volunteer of the Ghost Brigade raises the red flag after the liberation of Debaltsevo, Donetsk People's Republic, from Ukrainian occupation forces.
🕊🙏
In honor of Commander Alexey Markov
Six years ago, on the night of November 3–4, 2014, the Volunteer Communist Detachment (DKO), created by the Russian communist movement, advanced to Novorossiya from St. Petersburg. On the same day, in Moscow, the soldiers of the detachment were presented with the Battle Banner.
During the offensive on Debaltseve, DKO was the first to break into the village on March 8, 2015, and took the Debaltseve-Sortirovochnaya station in battle, then participated in the clean-up of Novogrigorovka.
Feb. 19, 2015, the Communist Volunteer Detachment of the Ghost Brigade raised the red flag after the successful battle to liberate Debaltsevo.
This was one of the decisive struggles against Ukrainian-fascist occupation of Donbass.

A powerful tribute to three members of the Volunteer Communist Detachment of the Ghost Brigade who fell in battle during the early hours of the campaign to liberate Debaltsevo from Ukrainian occupation in February 2015.
Survive to victory -- everyone dreams about it, then gets to the war. Not everyone’s dream comes true. When three rescuers of the wounded near Komissarovka died from a shell exploding next to them, they could not have known that they would not come true. And if they did, would it stop them?
A defeat for U.S./NATO imperialism
Five years ago: The liberation of Debaltsevo from Ukrainian fascist occupation
By Greg Butterfield
After days of intense fighting, the Ghost Brigade commanded by Alexey Mozgovoy and other Novorossiyan forces swept into Debaltsevo and surrounding villages, freeing residents held as virtual hostages in their basements for weeks by the occupiers.
A key role in the operation was played by international communist volunteers of the Ghost Brigade's Unit 404, commanded by Piotr Biriukov.
After such a crushing defeat, one might expect cooler heads to prevail in Washington. Would the Obama administration and Republican Congressional leaders reconsider their belligerent course toward increasing arms shipments to Ukraine and threatening Russia, which played a key role in securing the Feb. 15 ceasefire? No. Instead, Secretary of State John Kerry threatened Russia with more sanctions, repeating Kiev's well-tread lies of “Russian occupation” in Donbass.
By Commander Alexey Markov Exactly five years ago, by order No. 3 of July 29, 2014, on the basis of the Ghost Battalion and individual militia groups, a separate mechanized Ghost Brigade was created under the command of Alexey Mozgovoy -- one of the most renowned and well-known units of the Novorossiyan Army.
Through all these long years of war, the valiant "Ghosts" have reliably protected the civilian population of the cities and towns of Donbass from the Ukrainian punishers of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime.
Today we remember our glorious journey of battle, which includes Slavyansk, Lysychansk, Debaltsevo, Kirovsk and Zhelobok (the latter completely wiped off the face of the earth by Ukrainian forces).
Today we remember all those who fell in battles for the freedom and independence of the Donbass.
True to its duty and its ideals, the Ghost division is still at the foremost frontiers of our republic. And we can proudly say that our battle flag will never bow down before the enemy! Happy holiday, dear comrades and brothers in arms! Happy holiday, "Ghost"!
