It is difficult to keep smiling. It was like a mask she took off when no one was looking. At the moments her thoughts wandered at home, it simply fell off revealing the solemn visage of a young woman. She was a fighter throughout her life, assuring everyone everything was all right, be the person who would stand for everyone’s sake. At least, people should not be burdened by her personal issues. Laurie was always the girl getting As, rewarded at school for her hard work. She was the shoulder her friends could lean on and the support her father needed, after... Just in five years, she felt she had aged, tremendously.
Seeing people go through variety of emotions in the fog - Laurie’s desperate need to avoid the nightmare repeating itself, it was even easier to forget herself. That Laurie, as well, was not invincible to her demons.

But I’ll keep doing it until it sticks.” He wrings his hands, raises his eyes, finally, from his thousand-mile stare. “Do you believe me?”
