A blade flips over his knuckles, sharpening his focus as he levels it towards his teacher : it’s a training day ( when is it not ? ). Sweat drips from his brow as his feet plant against dirt; Zed is strong, but Kayn is becoming stronger. Hand-to-hand is just as important as magic is, he knows this. But while he can wield any weapon placed in his hand, Kayn has yet to beat his MASTER. It is the ultimate goal for a student—and for Kayn, simply being equal is never enough. He wants to best him : to SURPASS HIM. One day, he knows he will reach a height that Ionia has never seen. But for now, his eyes narrow to eagle - focus on the fight before him ( a moment of time alone with the man he respects ).

A glare in his eyes sparked up as he felt the hit on his face. It hurt, it hurt like nothing he had ever felt before. And for a moment he feared that he might faint from the pain. But that stubborn head of his kept him on his feet, unwilling to give in just yet.

“Is that all you got, Shen?!” The adolescent disciple of the Kinkou Order asked, a grin on his face that was distorted by his swollen and bleeding nose. Maybe it would have been for the best to give up right now but the last thing he would do is give up. Not to him. Although his vision did slowly get blurry for some unknown reason.

Ah yes, this was another one of their usual bouts; always demanded by his father, Kusho, that brawling like this was something the two teens would do on the regular. ( In order to keep you boys sharp, he says. But Shen would not learn the truth of how his father simply wants Zed to surpass his own son. Not until it would be too late. ) But like this, going toe to toe with Usan, Shen felt bad for him - seeing how bloodied and bruised his best friend was in front of him. When in front of his father, he always felt guilty for the way he beat into Usan, and as a result would always let him get the upper hand so that their spar would end faster. 

But like this, they both could take their time, Shen’s strikes coming at Usan careful and calculated, focused on little damage and holding only priority on actually landing each blow. As he stepped back with a smile etched on his face, proud of the connect of his palm into his partner’s nose, his proud moment quickly wittled away upon seeing the blood on Usan’s face. And for a moment he pondered stopping the spar, worried that he had possibly broken his nose - but Shen saw the fire in his friend’s eyes, he was never one to give up so easily, even in a spar.

“Of course not!”

Shen’s smile returned, eyes warm and full of respect for his friend. Raising his hands once more in preparation to strike again, he steps forward, staying in his typical stance. One, two, three strikes out with the flat of his palms, each connecting with either of Usan’s shoulders, followed up by a palm to the gut. They’re lighter hits, Shen not wanting to truly harm his friend, after all.

Valyra was running through the small Ionian town, several men running after her. She had a large, ancient looking tome in her arms. As she ran she glanced back over her shoulder and ran directly into Zed, sending her sprawling to the ground, book sailing through the air. She cursed loudly, bladed fans being pulled from her sleeves as she climbed to her feet and swinging around to face her pursuers.
