When the moon was high and sleep evaded him, he traced familiar paths through the bubbling brooks and sweeping wisterias. He was content in the silence. The solitude.

But Rukia had a welcome place at his side. He allowed her to set the pace, making their way through the sprawling grounds to the hydrangeas just beginning to open in the balmy summer air; soon this corner of the gardens would blossom into a gradient of blues and purples, expertly arranged. Byakuya's gaze made a slow sweep across the burgeoning flowers, before settling on that of his sister.
