Dead End Drive In (1986) When Crabs and Carmen get stuck in a concentration camp for society’s unwanted, Crabs has to find a way to escape and get back to reality. The story in this one is really simple, they get trapped and need to escape, and that’s the common theme throughout, with various attempts to escape and free himself, Crabs will stop at nothing to get free. It’s simple and works but there’s very little depth to the story at all. Where the film flourishes is in it’s Mad Max style landscape and some beautiful settings. The films post apocalyptic style is gorgeous and really puts you in another world. It feels genuine and it’s broad landscape and camp image really stands out throughout. The acting isn’t actually too bad either, it isn’t going to win any awards, but I’ve also seen way worse, especially for an 80’s B movie! The soundtrack really helps tie this 80’s flick together, with some catchy 80’s electric pop to go in there with some electric guitar rifts, it’s a brilliant combination and helps add to the already brilliant 80’s mood! Overall, Dead End Drive In, isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s also worth a watch, purely to experience the great setting directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith.
