Satan’s Blade (1984) A group of youngsters arrive at a mountainous hotel, to find out there was a double murder there the night before... so they stay anyway, and what unfolds is a wintery battle for survival. First of all, the premise sets the tone of this film, the fact that despite a double murder, 1. The police allow people to stay here, 2. The lodge owners didn’t shut the place and 3. The group are more than happy to stay there says everything! And yes some things do ‘sorta’ piece together some questions but it still leaves more questions than answers. You have to leave your head at the door when you put this on and enjoy it for what it is. That is an 80’s B movie slasher with a twist. The twist isn’t a great logical ending, oh no, the twist is that despite being released in 84’, it was shot in 1980 so it feels and plays out as more of a 70’s type slasher. The acting is pretty bad, the narrative is strange, and the dialogue leaves little to be desired, but it’s not all bad, it’s fun at times and has its fair share of death, so if you’re an 80’s B movie fan you’ll do fine watching it, if not I’d probably give it a miss! Arrows restoration of this presents it in 2k with a beautiful reversible sleeve and collectors booklet which outlines the films production and history. Overall if you’re looking for a so bad it’s nearly good type film, and you go into this with low expectations you’ll be okay.
