In "The Last Ship," the crew survive on board the USS Nathan James, a nuclear naval destroyer.  While there doesn't exist a vessel with that name, the US Navy does have the USS Roosevelt, which is of similar classification (DDG-80). Her glamour shot (naval ships are ALWAYS female) just prior to commissioning is pictured first, then a photo of the vessel in the Mediterranean sea in February 2014.
