So I'll be upfront, it's my birthday today. That is great and all, right? I guess so. Birthdays fall under this idea that we as a society have created of days that matter more than others.

You put on a happy face and play along, everyone shows just how much they care, and everyone is happy. Just for that one day. The rest of the days of the year aren't worth the time.

And you aren't allowed to have a bad day on these days either, you just have to be happy until it's over.

I think it's bullshit. You want to show me you care about me? Check up on me on any day, not just my birthday. If you haven't spoken to me in 6 months don't waste your time on my birthday either.

It's just to show that you are thinking about them right? Not really. It's self gratifying, you would feel bad if you didn't say something on this day, so you do. And then you feel better about yourself, pat yourself on your back cause you showed them you care about them. Then forget they exist for the rest of the year again.
