A Day of Rest
"Moses (to the leaders): Listen to what the Eternal commanded: Tomorrow, the seventh day, is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath dedicated to Him. Bake or boil whatever you need for today’s meals. Whatever is left over, keep it to eat tomorrow. It won’t spoil...Moses: Eat what is left over today, because today is a Sabbath to the Eternal, a day of rest." Exodus 16:23, 25 (VOICE)
"Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Mark 2:27 (AMP)
There is a lot said about the Sabbath and whether Christians should observe it or not. I am not going to get into that here, but I do know that God created everything in six days and He rested on the seventh day. God also declared a day of rest for His people - He made it a commandment. The word "Sabbath", literally means "to rest from labor"; "the day of rest". God knows that if people do not rest enough they become stressed and ill. In another translation of Mark 2:27, Jesus said “The Day of Rest was made for the good of man. Man was not made for the Day of Rest." (NLV) We were created for God, in His likeness. We were not created to work continually and we weren't created for a world where there is 24/7 non-stop internet and media. God gave Himself a day of rest and He gave us the right to have one too. It is OK to turn that phone off, unplug all the work and have a break and some peace. Friend, I don't know what your views about the Sabbath are, that's between you and your Heavenly Father; but if you are stressed and working too hard, maybe that's a conversation you two should have together. God loves you and has your best interests at heart. ALWAYS. Amen!
