DAY 169:Â Hombre de las Nieves
Like most pre-teen boys, I collected action figures.
And even as Star Wars dominated the action figure market, nobody in my neighborhood really discriminated. When you “played Star Wars” at another kid’s house, bringing along random G.I. Joes wasn’t really frowned upon.Â
Fisher-Price figures mixed with Ugnaughts mingled with Buck Rogers characters assimilated with Micronauts.Â
But first & foremost, I was a comic book kid.Â
So, my earliest sights were set on the Mego figures.Â
My favorite being THIS dude:
And when figures eventually shrunk in size, I found that the Marvel/DC figures weren’t exactly beating Star Wars to the shelves, so I pretty much collected any figures that came along.
Even if they were connected to Disney flops.Â
Again, I didn’t necessarily discriminate. I’m pretty sure even Neil deGrasse Tyson couldn’t have changed my mind.
But by the time DC finally caught up to the action figure game with THIS,Â
I was too old to keep collecting. Even though the figures they were churning outÂ
didn’t seem nearly as hokey as the comics connected to them.
At the time anyway.Â
But recently, I’ve been watching a lot of videos that THESE folks put out:
And their history of the Super Powers line is pretty great.
So much so that I have these pangs of regret that I didn’t collect more of them back in the day. I only had a Darkseid
& a Hawkman without wings that I found at a Goodwill.
I also regret that I’ll probably show up at Heroic Goods & Games sometime soon, looking for some of the rarer Super Powers figures.
A deeper regret that I’ll never get my hands on some of the foreign, non-Kenner figures.

Day 169 - orange bird dress On Wednesday while at Disneyland I had the opportunity to go to the Disney vault, west coast home of the Disney dress shop. For those not aware it's a shop filled with vintage style dresses inspired by classic Disney attractions and films. While all the dresses were amazing (and I wanted to purchase each and every one) this orange bird dress caught my eye. Orange bird, the original mascot of the Florida park, has always been a Disney geeky favorite of mine. He's both recognizable and obscure at the same time. Add to that the shape of this dress and the color and it was a match made in disney heaven. I couldn't resist buying it and wearing it to work on Thursday. It's paired with a simple wedge from aerosols and (not pictured) my denim jacket. Since this dress is new I'm getting rid of two old long sleeve tshirt shoes I don't wear anymore. They are actually part of a larger closet purge that includes 5 bags to give away. Good thing, since the tank dress I wore last week and the poncho sweater were new as well. It feels nice to clean out my drawers and figure out what really is worth keeping. As for weight loss... despite Passover and Disneyland and having friends in town I'm down to 162.5lbs, that's another 1.4 lbs. I'm sure not eating bread has helped, but I'm glad to see another loss. Every week I'm inching closer to my goal. This week's weight: 162.5 lbs Last week's weight: 163.9 lbs (-1.4 lbs) Total loss: 8.4 lbs (Dress: Disney dress shop, shoes: aerosols)
