I read a lot of fanfiction and it’s a vital part of my everyday relax routine.
However, sometimes I fell into a hole of not reading. Often, it’s just life getting into the way - work, stress, family problems, you name your reason. The other times is just frustration of not finding “right” fic or falling for a pair that has total of two fics on AO3.
And this “hole” thing has been going on for a few months in 2020 - when pandemic has started I’ve read one or two bits but other than that I was overwhelmed with trying to manage school work and working from home.
But, recently I found my long forgotten “Stories” bookmark on my browser and it turned out that at some point in the past I saved my all time favourite fics - I tend to forget to save the best ones, forget the names of them and loose them for months or years.
And guys, I’ve read them all. I will write down five of them in a moment.
The thing I want to say is that there is nothing in the world that makes me feel more grounded and good than your fanfiction. The stories are always there for me, waiting with open arms, ready to make me happy or console me. And the feeling of finding fic that just speaks to you, that understands you in a ways you never knew would be possible is just the best. I’ve had a hard time since December and I made few big mistakes. And characters in fanfictions also make mistakes - but the stories showed me that in the end everyone makes mistakes, it’s the way you deal with it, face you weaknesses is a measure to who you are and who you can become.
Some people might find it funny, that fanfics can have this impact on someone’s life. But what can I say? They just do. They are my safe place. Always have been.

Cultivate Your Hunger by dawnstruck
I’ve always felt that Sasuke and Naruto have exceptional chemistry. This fanfiction makes me feel all kind of emotions and it’s a classic for me. It hurts in the right places and makes me go to my love and hug him tightly.
love is touching souls (surely you touched mine) by ToAStranger
I love Billy/Steve fanfictions by ToAStranger but this one is my ultimate favourite. I’ve never liked the idea of Harry with Voldermord/Tom Riddle but this fic made me love it. How can you write characters so well is beyond me.
I do like Gaara/Naruto almost as much as Sasuke/Naruto. Monogatari is my comfort fic. Whenever I feel lost, just like Gaara in it, I crawl under the blanket and read it until I feel maybe not found, but a little more like me again. It gives me a sense of calm that not knowing who you are or what you will do with your life is ok.
The Bucket List by GallaPlacidia
Drarry is one of the reasons I’m so into fanfiction. There is number of favourites and I could go on about this ship for hours. This one has a special place in my heart. Draco is the character I like to identify myself with even if we don’t exactly share a lot of personality traits. I love Pansy/Draco friendship here.

And all of this has started with Sterek. I have a lot of favourites but this particular spin on Christmas Carole with Stiles and Derek is exceptional for me. I always read it during Christmas and it never fails to make me feel good.
