It's the 19th century, and Ed owns a family-run cargo ship with Al and Winry. Roy's a siren who ventures closer to shore than most- both to collect treasure and because he finds amusement in keeping the "myth" of his people alive by being spotted by drunkards during the witching hour.

He's been watching the loud group of blondes for some time, since their ship loads at the harbor nearby- and because one of them is especially enchanting.

A late night accident causes Ed to fall overboard. He sinks fast, metal limbs dragging him down. Roy had been keeping tentative pace with the ship, and acts fast when Ed goes under.
