It shouldn’t be a surprise now - he’s seen Dimitri and he’s seen Hubert now, so people coming back to life is possible here. Maybe it catches him off-guard because of how soon he sees her. It’s barely been a day or two since Edelgard fell at her former teacher’s hands ( and at his hands too, as he begged her to stand down, so they wouldn’t have to kill her ), so seeing her is like seeing a ghost.
But, he can’t avoid her forever. No, a mauve gaze was thrown in his direction. Gold must have caught her eye in return, and Edelgard wasn’t going to let him get away so easily. How terrifying, he thought to himself with a laugh. Still, it wouldn’t do him good to run away now.
“Y’know, I knew you’d haunt me, but could you give me
a week or so before you start doing so? It’s kind of rude,
Your Imperialness.”
A laugh, bitter and slightly broken. He thought he could act like he did with Dimitri, simply cover up his discomfort with a scheme up his sleeve to get some information out of him, but it’s.... different. It’s different seeing someone you killed with your own two hands, rather than simply listening to a friend describe their death.
It’s too different. He felt sick to his stomach.
