David Floyd Suspected For Fire That Killed His Daughter

BALDWYN, MS – 28-year-old David Floyd is has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly set the residence in which he lived with his girlfriend and three children on fire early last Tuesday. His 26-year-old girlfriend escaped with the couple’s 18-month-old girl and two-month-old boy.

“The mother woke up because she felt the heat on her face,” said  Lee County Sheriff Department’s Fire Investigator Brian Kilgore. “She basically put the 18-month-old out the window, took the two-month-old with her and then went around front to see if she could get in to save the other daughter. She couldn’t so she ran next door and called 911.”

The 911 call about a house on fire came in at 2:39 a.m. A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at 2:46 a.m.; the fire department was close behind. Emergency personnel found seven-year-old Savannah in her bedroom. She had multiple burns to her face and arms as well as “severe internal injuries because of the smoke and heat.”

“The house had two bedrooms, one at each end and a living room area in the middle,” reported Kilgore. “When you walk in the front door you have a couch and a coffee table and that’s basically where the origin of the fire was.”

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson told media, “The fire was at 500-600 degrees and that was going on the entire time [Savannah] was in there.” Further, “[She] was trapped in there with the door shut, so when they busted that window open, the air hit the fire and it just blew up, but you had no choice but to go in and get her.”

And they did. Savannah was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center then transported to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. She died Monday.

Did you hear me, Denizens? Savannah was seven years old. She had multiple burns to her face and arms and severe internal injuries when found by emergency personnel. Now she’s dead. DEAD. Because of a fire her father is accused of setting. A fire that easily could’ve killed her mother and two younger siblings as well.

Floyd’s girlfriend and other two children were sent to separate hospitals (the two-month old to LeBonheur), treated, and released. Authorities say Floyd did not visit his children in the hospital. He did, however, turn himself in to police last Wednesday (the day after the fire).
