I'm not sure how we ended up in the subway. Oh I do remember - - people were staring at us, watching us as I photographed him on the street, wondering if Dave was someone famous, etc. It was distracting, Dave looked uncomfortable, we couldn't connect and I could tell it would be impossible to reach anything genuine. When we went onto the subway platform, everything changed. The atmosphere quieted, there were very few people. It was just silence - -click - - talk a moment - - click. I watched him slide back into himself.
