Sera knew there was no creeping up on Kanda, but it didn’t dampen her efforts. He knew she had no reason to sneak around him with cruelty and understood playfulness was not beyond her. She softened the weight of her steps, closing the distance between them to wrap her arms around his torso. The shaman pressed her cheek to his back and she realized she should say something but it would only break this gentle kind of silence. It was one of her attempts to bring a little happiness to their lives.
Alertness had long been part of the male’s programming. A natural course of action would be to acknowledge the other’s presence as soon as he was aware of its existence, but careful footsteps echoed with a specific purpose.
So, he would wait before turning, either unsure if it was blatant that he was humoring her actions. Much remained unknown to him- her actions, her reasoning. Instead of allowing it all to be met with rejection, he would (slowly) attempt to understand.
He flinched involuntarily once the shaman’s arms had coiled around his abdomen. “What are-” He paused, body unchanging. Just when he thought he could predict her actions, she provided him with something else to respond to.Oblivious at times, the man previously wearing widened eyes could understand that this action was meant to hold affection.
With hesitance, as if he was unsure of the minuscule action on his own behalf, he slid coarse digits over the lithe ones responsible for binding the two. Interlocking his fingers with hers, he turned around to look at steely hues of the shaman who was presumably full of questions.
“Che, you didn’t do it right.”
Without his usual hesitance, he pulled her forward into a full embrace. This is what’s normal, isn’t it? It didn’t take much to reach across her dainty torso, but he would have to lean down if she wanted to wrap her arms around his neck.
Progress.
