Mr. Blinky Wastes No Time Tearing Down The Tamagotchi Pix
Mr. Blinky is always up to some cool stuff, and he’s a key member of the Tamagotchi community. You may know Mr. Blinky for their work with Tamagotchi P’s VDP’s, but Mr. Blinky has a large skillset that benefits the Tamagotchi community! Mr. Blinky just got their hands on the brand new Tamagotchi Pix that was just release yesterday in North America. Wasting no time, Mr. Blinky has already used his tools to tear down the latest Tamagotchi to see what’s inside, and they seem pretty excited!
So what did Mr.Blinky find in the new Tamagotchi Pix? Let’s take a look. In order for Mr.Blinky to get to the guts of the Tamagotchi Pix they had to drill a hole in the top of the shutter, jokingly calling this “brain surgery”. Once the hole was drilled the the shutter comes off by removing another glued support. Then the shell needs to be removed, which means a lot of screws need to be removed, seven to be exact. Like the Tamagotchi Friends and Tamagotchi On devices, the PCB (printed circuit board) is soldered to the battery box, Mr.Blinky believes this may be due to not needing cables, or maybe to reduce radio interference, or maybe even just to deter disassembly.
After heating up the soldering iron Mr.Blinky popped out the PCB which is when the fun begins. The circuit board, the vertical row seems to be for accessing the SPI memory, and there appears to be some debug pads for the MCU (multipoint control unit). Mr.Blinky was also able to remove the camera, and the plastic around the LCD screen. Under the LCD screen you will see there is no black block of expoxy, bu rather a genuine chip, yay for silicon! It’s a GPL32610B chip from General Plus, ARM7 CPU with up to 96mhz (it may be under clocked) There is also 32KB of internal RAM with embedded 4M x16-bit SDRAM.
The touch buttons, camera, and LCD splay are connected with FPC (flexible printed circuit) cables, which makes disassembly much cleaner, and easier. Now Mr.Blinky takes the Tamagotchi Pix and connects it up to their modded Arduboy for dumping, which will give them access to the data on the device itself, such as sprites and more. It appears that the dumping was successful, and Mr.Blinky was able to get the 8MB dump done in just 42.24 seconds, and Mr.Blinky will be analyzing the data.
This is super excited! You may remember that Mr.Blinky has had several Tamagotchi projects over the year, and was able to to get the dump of the Tamagotchi Friends content years ago, so we might have our hands on some interesting content soon that Mr.Blinky gets a hold of.
