'The Place Beyond The Pines' 2012, written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, in part follows Luke (Ryan Gosling) as he robs banks to provide for his previous lover and newly discovered son. Derek Cianfrance explains that in a meeting with Gosling, he had told him of a fantasy he had had his entire life of robbing a bank on a dirt bike, and riding down the road into the back of a truck, explaining "The police won't be looking for a white truck". Cianfrance was baffled, and told him he was currently working on a script in which those exact events took place. He knew at this point that Gosling was made for the role.
