So if Dark!Lucy is actually Dark!Skully, what would a Dark!Lucy without Skully look like --please bring this AU back I love it--
Iâm not sure about bringing this au back, but I spotted the question and yknow why not. I also havenât looked at the books in a while (havenât even read the last one oops, itâs been on my shelf for ages, Em has though, so sheâd probably know better than me)But! If i had to take a stab in the dark (lol, get it?) Lucy without skully is... pretty similar to Lucy with skully. I donât think he so much posesses her as he just... unlocks her inner turmoil. Lucy would still listen to the ghosts, sheâd still eventually go mad. Especially with the living people so corrupted... itâd be easy to see how sheâd slip and fall and advocate more for death than she does with life. She seemed more intimate with it than other agents, somehow. (again, I havenât read TEG, so this is mostly speculation about the earlier three books) I can see that fascination with the other side spilling into her moral compass and... warping things in a way that bends to the spiritsâ favor.
How willing would darkwood and co be to do normal chores and tasks? Do the dark!selves go grocery shopping and cooking or do they delegate
Well, Holly would be more than willing to do menial stuff, because it wins her favor with the people around her. George is too busy doing sciency things, so heâd probably get other people to do it for him. Lockwood wouldnât mind, but itâs not something he enjoys, and Lucyâs... not all there. I doubt she even would realize there were chores to be done.Â
âWhat the hell was that?â Lockwoodâs voice was shrill as he glared Lucy down from where she was standing. Her face felt hot as she suppressed the rage that was boiling up inside her throat. Sheâd expected him to explode like this, judging by the incredibly awkward and silent ride home, but it still never failed to catch her off guard when he raised his voice.
âWhat do you mean, âwhat the hell was that?â I was trying to help her! She was communicating with me.â
âCommunicating? You almost got yourself killed!â Lockwood exclaimed, gesturing wildly with his hands. Lucy resisted the almost unbearable urge to roll her eyes at him.
âI would have been fine if you hadnât come in and slashed at her, with no regard for what she was saying or what I could have done to help--â
âItâs not your job to help ghosts!â He interrupted. âWe get rid of them. Theyâre dangerous and theyâll kill mindlessly until we put a stop to it.â She should have known this wouldnât have gone over well. This was the third time sheâd tried to establish a connection with a spirit, and the third rollicking sheâd gotten as a consequence. Still, if she could just get through to him, maybe heâd understand.
âLockwood, theyâre not mindless, thatâs what Iâm saying! Theyâre intelligent, and if youâd just let me talk to them--â Her voice was strained as she tried to convey just how important this was. Their company could change the world and he was too afraid to even try.
âLucy, just stop. Itâs way too dangerous and youâre going to get yourself or someone else hurt.â
âYouâre the one whoâs always saying that weâre âindependentâ and we should âexplore our talents!ââ
âNot when doing that is going to get you killed.â
âI can take care of myself, Lockwood.â
âWell, obviously you canât!â
Lucy sucked in a breath. Her face reddened, and her eyebrows drew ever closer together. What ever retort she had at hand dissolved in her embarrassment, and she rapidly turned on a heel to retreat. âYouâre insufferable. Iâm going to bed.â
Anything Lockwood said in response was promptly ignored as Lucy stomped up to her attic room, chucking her bag onto the ground and flopping onto her bed.
I heard all of that, you know. A familiar voice wormed its way into her ear.
âShut up, skull.â Lucy groaned, rolling onto her stomach so she could cover her ears with the pillow.
What? You didnât even hear what I was going to say. He genuinely sounded irritated by this. Lucy could almost picture the grotesque face he would be making, no doubt with an elongated frown and a lacking nose. She didnât bother looking up.
âI don't care what you were going to say.â Lucy figured regardless of what she said, the skull would talk anyway. She never really could get him to shut up completely.
I just think Lockwood is a fool for not letting you hear that ghost. She had some interesting points. Really appreciated being heard. You could do great things. But obviously, you donât care about that. So Iâll just leave you alone to sulk and doubt your purpose in life.
Lucy stopped for a minute, registering what was said. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
You know full well what doubting your purpose means. You do that almost every day. Donât think I donât notice.
âNo, no. The last bit.â She opted to ignore the jab.
You could do great things? Oh, come off of it. Of course youâd know that. Youâre not completely stupid. Listening to ghosts could lead you anywhere you wanted to go. You could easily excel to levels beyond this little hovel of a company. Or at least, you could impress Lockwood. I know youâd love to do that. Lucy scowled, her original curiosity stomped into oblivion.
âShut up.I donât want to excel or impress Lockwood.â
Shutting up. But think about it. You really could be the savior of London. I could help you, you know.
âI donât need your help.â
Right.
There was a moment of silence. A second of pause. Lucy mulled over what the Skull said. He had to be lying. Tempting her, so to speak. But still, âsavior of Londonâ? That was a hefty title. If there was any truth at all to what it was talking about⌠She didnât know what to think.
Oo! Would dark!locklyle be a thing? How do you think it would work? (This is an awesome blog btw)
(Aaaah thank you!)((This post gets rlly dark as a warning--))Dark!locklyle? It really depends honestly. If Lucy was dark and Lockwood was not, I think maybe he might try and help her because he genuinely cares about her, be it love or friendship is up for debate, but by the time he noticed she was possessed it wouldnt really help. Both instances with a dark!Lockwood... Would get really really bad tbh. If they were both dark, Lockwood might consider her a valuable asset. He'd actually encourage her descent into madness, painting himself out to be the merciful person who led her to her "salvation" and opened her eyes to all of the evil in the world. She would be wrapped around his pinky. With Lockwood...Most people are. If Lockwood were dark and Lucy was not ooooooh boy it would be scary Dark Lockwood is a very delicate person to handle because he's very much like regular Lockwood. He's pretty. He's nice. He always knows just the right way to smile and make a heart melt. Normal Lockwood is honest, though. Hes nice. He's a genuinely good person. Dark Lockwood is not.He is manipulative. He is cunning. He is abusive (emotionally and physically). His temper often gets the best of him. Lucy, while in the first chapter of TCS was very independent and has grown a lot, dark Lockwood wouldn't really give her the chance to spread her wings. He'd keep her tethered with smiles and compliments and affection, but if she ever acted out of turn or simply said something he didn't like... It's not pretty. She'd have never left to become a freelance because Lockwood would never jet her leave. He keeps her because she's amusing to him. She's useful. Shes entertaining. Hey, he might even genuinely like her. But being liked by dark Lockwood is a dangerous, dangerous thing, and hardly considered a blessing.

Wouldn't regular Lockwood and George notice something was off with Lucy before she goes completely mad?
Of course they would! Lockwood and George would definitely notice something was off. Lucy really is a valuable member of the company, so if she starts going mad, everyone notices. Unfortunately, Lockwood and George aren't super great at showing affection or worry. Lockwood almost always translates worry into anger, and anger causes Lucy to retreat back to the skull, who's never angry with her. It would quicken the process immensely. George, poor awkward George, I think he would notice what was happening even before Lockwood did. But he's almost worse than Lockwood in the fact that with delicate issues, his gruff and sarcastic demeanor don't help much. So after the first time trying to help by telling Lucy straight would only start a fight. After that, he'd work furiously to try and find some kind of cure, or a reason why it was happening.Neither Lockwood nor George can hear what the skull whispers to Lucy, so neither of them have any idea who the catalyst is or how to stop it. It's a helpless situation all over.
Somehow I feel that with dark!Holly, the last book might not have ended very differently. Would she be a catalyst for dark!Lucy and dark!Lockwood?
Dark!Holly in her very nature is a catalyst. Thatâs what she does. Had Holly been evil in THB, nothing would have really changed except for that last bit where Lucy and Holly have that bonding experience with the poltergeist.Â
She could also very well be the reason dark!Lucy came along (Iâm not sure about dark Lockwood, heâs kind of an odd fish.) Holly would whisper little lies into Lockwoodâs ear, which would definitely cause him to act in ways he wouldnât normally. And since even in the dark verse, Lucyâs attitude is very Lockwood centered, his reaction to Hollyâs deceit would definitely breed some negative feelings, which Skully could feed off of, which leads to a very bad situation all around.
One of my favorite things about dark!Lucy is that, because she is a bringer of death, every time she kills, her army gets just a little bit bigger. The ghosts start to outnumber the living, and the more she kills, the more powerful she gets. Food for thought.
