I saw someone say something like “the localization had to write over offensive characters like Devdan/Danved and Kysha” and I don’t get it. I don’t think Kyza/Kysha is offensive or “bad representation”. While he (I’m using male pronouns because the localization went with the “gay man” interpretation of the character, although seeing Kysha as a trans woman is fine too) is a bit stereotypical, so are virtually all Fire Emblem characters; he’s still seen as a respected and reliable soldier and no one judges him poorly for his quirks. While the localization did write out his flamboyance and crush on Ranulf in that base conversation, they left it in his support lines, so I’m willing to say they were just trying to flesh him out a bit more as opposed to “censor” him, and his excessive politeness fits in with him trying to appease the beorc in the other base conversation. Overall he’s as well-rounded as any other side character in Radiant Dawn. As for Danved, his quirk was his strange way of speaking, which if I recall correctly was overly cutesy or girly in the Japanese version, but since everyone speaks relatively the same way in English, they had to change it to something else. I’ve heard people call it offensive that “the black guy talks like he’s stupid” but to me it just seems like he talks like he’s still learning the language, which isn’t offensive to me, and he’s actually quite wise in his supports. The only thing I find offensive about him is that they changed his supports with Nephenee, which could be seen as playing up the “scary black man” angle, making it MORE offensive than the original. TLDR I don’t think that claim that “the localization wrote over offensive characters” makes any sense because Kysha wasn’t offensive to begin with and one of Danved’s conversations was made more offensive.

I saw that on Radiant Dawn's character chart and found it pretty funny... But then something else struck me.
