It's a little detail of the books but I feel like there's a lot we missed out on from some of the Cêpans and the skills they had that would've been useful for the Garde growing up.
One's Cêpan was a strong fighter and knew the ways of Loric martial arts that Adam picked up while he was in One's memories. And it was used only once by him, when he fought Ivan. We know Adam put in the time to read Number Two's to-read list in his spare time, so he could've also spent that time researching more about Earth martial arts that were similar to Hilde's combat instructions and learned so much more on hand to hand combat. It couples well with the use of Terric as a long range Legacy, and adds soemthing to his arsenal of combative knowledge and strategic thinking to round out his abilities to assist the Garde.
Five described that his Cêpan saved him in Canada by killing the Mog with a broken shovel and a gun he got from a black market. He knew how to raise livestock, craft a small cabin, a little bit of medical aid, sea navigation, and knew his weaponry top to bottom. The guy straight up killed a snake by flinging an axe onto the tree it was climbing. If Rey couldn't teach Five how to fight because of his worsening condition, he could've helped him in so many other ways that ensured his survival, Legacies or not. How did he know where the black market in Canada was? How did he negotiate? The man was mad resourceful and we could've had a whole badass grandpa teaching his grandson Five how to reach that level of resourcefulness.
Reynolds and Devdan had two different ways of raising Eight that shine through in his personality, outlook, and various strengths. Reynolds was a very happy camper for Eight, always laughing and being a beacon to him not matter the situation, and that resonates through Eight's optimism and ability to help everyone feel more relaxed and united together. Devdan was still a helpful influene on Eight in his Legacies, his training, and his spiritual nature to help him ease himself internally. He apparently knew something about Eight when we meet him in Eight's Origin, so maybe he was a Cêpan? Maybe maybe? Still thinking that would've been it.
